1st impression of this new version is pretty good. On my first quick check some sites work better and faster. Great!

On thing I really wonder is why it takes significantly more time to start up and shut down on my WLAN connected computers (iMac G5, Powerbook) than on my ethernet connected mac mini.

:-)

Thank you for another quick update

Startup time is generally dependant on the size of your on-disk cache (which in itself depends on the disk free size). Shutdown time depends on the websites you've visited - some may be running jobs that take a bit more time to complete and not all of those can be aborted safely.

Thanks for this update! The first PDF export test was successful. I hope there'll be some HTML5 Media support in the near future.

@ Zylesea - I mention this as it might help your situation of slow startup of Wayfarer as well.

I keep my Wayfarer Settings > Disk & Memory Caching > In-Memory Caching set at Minimal, and the other option of the slider control for Disk Cache right down to 5MB in that way the Curl folder contents are kept to a minimum, and startup-shutdown times are very responsive, and there is little delay in closing Wayfarer. It also probably takes less time to read/write to it, and that way I get a more dynamic response to Wayfarer overall.

@ jacadcaps - more great work, and definitely an improvement over v1.5, and making for a much faster responsive program, and with more wonderful features. Just had a Crash with PayPal being the cause it seems, which I've reported via email, as even the Crash Reporter text got "Frozen" and my system required a warm-reboot.

Since that "Freeze" PayPal seem to have made their site inaccessible via Wayfarer, whichever User Agent you choose, unless others are having better success than I am?

@ NewSense

I think you're the only one having issues with PayPal now - we've been testing it extensively over the days leading to the 1.6 release. Unless of course the UK interface is somehow totally different (login does differ between my Polish and Canadian accounts, so who knows?).

I've just tried logging into my UK account using Wayfarer on my G5 and I've been able to log in fine.

Not tried anything once I'm log in but other than having to do phone authentication I didn't have any issues.

Thank you for he hint. I reduced the cache to 5 MB now, but no noticable change. It takes ages to startup up my iMac G5 (ages= about 3 minutes) while on the Mac mini it takes a few seconds only. Both cache drives are ssds, sys: and are using sfs as file system . I don't spot that much of a difference but guess the three minutes splash screen time are not normal. Once started up Wayfarer is pretty snappy on both the mini G4 and the iMac G5.

Not enough addbuffers on the disk where Wayfarer is installed?

Is it accessing the drive all that time (Drivelamps.sbar is flashing) or does the HD access seem to be halted?

That is where the issue lies - I've been told by a member of staff at PayPal that their system is incapable of sending a phone authentication PSD2 to a Home/Land phone line, which they stated on their website would be implemented when PSD2 was 'live', but they have now admitted has not been, and PayPal staff that I spoke to have no idea when it will be!

That situation is what locked my Wayfarer cookies into a "knot" - so to speak, and required me to re-install Wayfarer to get rid of any remnants of ties to eBay/PayPal's association as one was affecting the other it seems. I can now log into eBay, but as I've been told the situation of PSD2 for Home/Land based phone line contact could be like an extremely long piece of string.

So, I have no idea when Wayfarer will be capable of accessing my account by my chosen method - landline - as they haven't got it working yet, and won't offer any information as to when/if they will fix this debacle they have caused.

IIRC SFS can get quite slow when very fragmented, even on SSD. So checking the amount of fragmentation might be a good idea.

@ Piru and others

thank you for the hints. Probably defragmentation did the trick. Now with a freshly defragmented drive (and only 5 MB caching size) it starts up in only a few seconds (less than 10s).
Before it took impressive three minutes and the drive leds were blinking al the time.

Version 1.7 is now available for download.

This is why I dislike writing constantly to HD, especially with caches and other frequent writes... I rather disable this kind of stuff or try to point them to the ram disk.

It's hard to keep up . . . but I like the feeling of catch-up . . . I can even stand the ReCaptcha-up now . . it's just more great news
