Did it cost money to get Google to verify?

I know that apps will get marked as unsafe if they use the oauth interface without verification. I was under the impression that you now had to use oauth even to use IMAP these days.

Indirectly. I had to pay for the iris-morphos.com domain and buy a HDMI capture card to make a YT video of the Gmail login process and app's usage of Gmail.

You can still use non-OAuth2 apps, but it's cumbersome, esp. if you have 2fa enabled.

Luckily there was no need for plan b.

So that's how it works, huh? For a company that does exterior painting in Albany this has been pretty helpful for us.
