Press : : The new CygnusED webpage is online
Posted By: AndreasM. on 2013/1/24 13:17:23
The CygnusED webpage is online via a new URL - http://www.cygnused.de. CygnusED is currently produced by Olaf Barthel and is one of the most popular text editors for the Amiga. Albeit slowly, the development of the program is still continuing. We'd like to get your opinion and thoughts as to what features you'd wish for future versions of CygnusEd. Please let us know your ideas by writing to us in the support forum of CygnusEd's new webpages so that we can consider supporting them for the program's future releases.

"Version 5 is also the first CygnusEd release ported entirely, including all auxiliary tools, to the PowerPC (AmigaOS 4)"

What I thought about this claim 6.5 years ago and still do:

    Nice, Nostalgia, but...

    No native MOS version.
CED progress is too slow, now CED should be a full office suite not just a text editor which is compatible only itself.
Similar programs (scriba, scribble) do the same, or more for free, and developing continiously.

Is there any contract restrictions that prevent native MorphOS or AROS-binaries of latest version ?

I think that text editors (CygnusED, Scribble) and word processors (Scriba) are different types of programs with different purposes.

I'd guess not. With Roadshow there is because it has been part of OS4. That's not the case with CygnusED.

Yeah, this version has been around for awhile.
Anyone know how to contact the author?
I'll offer him a MorphOS system if that would speed up a native port.

BTW - Claus has said that the port of Cinnamon Writer is progressing (but it is not at Alpha stage yet).

You could try via PM on sites where both you and him have an account:

    http://www.amiga.org/forums/member.php?u=897
    http://amigaworld.net/userinfo.php?uid=3272

    ...or send him an email:
