    Doesn't work here. I set it up properly and used my old smb.conf file. No other machine can connect, and it just makes loads of hanged smbd instances using 100% cpu.

    Lots of these in the log files:

    Out of memory in push_sec_ctx()
    Out of memory in push_sec_ctx()

    etc.

    A small FAQ

    How do I ad smbd and nmbd to inetd ?

    1) Add these two lines to inetd.conf:

    netbios-ssn stream tcp nowait root AmiTCP:samba/sbin/smbd smbd
    netbios-ns stream tcp nowait root AmiTCP:samba/sbin/nmbd nmbd

    And these in services:

    netbios-ssn 139/tcp
    netbios-ns 137/udp

    I does not work ,why ?

    It does work , so you probably need to read the
    samba docs again. There are some changes in the
    smb.conf syntax.

    It does work , but I get miljons of smbd processes and
    the logfiles are eating hd space ?

    First of all this is a ALPHA release, but if you
    use it with care and make sure that your pc is not
    trying to make new connections all the time.
    If you reboot your pc ,reboot your peg as well.

    I still have problems, what can I do ?

    Email me at vax9000@telia.com

    Have fun !

    It doesn't work, trust me. Maybe it doesn't like Miami...but why aren't you using Miami yourself? Using AmiTCP on MOS is impossible for most people, since the old version doesn't have DHCP or PPPoE, and the new version is only owned by MorphOS core devs and STILL hasn't been released.

    It works believe me ;-)

    I'm using it with MiamiDX.
    An 'assign amitcp: miami:' should do the trick.
    Put the Samba dir in miami: and it really works.

    Not sure but it seems the amitcp: part is hardcoded
    and required for the path to the files in sbin.

    Sure, it runs, and I can even connect to my own machine using SMBFS, but it doesn't work from any PCs.

    Adding the assign was the first thing I did, of course.

    @KennyR

    If you use old installation, make sure you modify the InetD lines in your TCP/IP stack.

    Binaries are now in Samba:sbin/ instead of Samba:bin/

    Hope it helps!

    If you have problems connecting from XP try using your
    ipadress instead of the netbios name, Im sure that
    it will help :)

    real tcp/ip instead of ugly netbios.

    Changing the inetd paths was the second thing I did, or how would have I been able to run all these smbd instances that hang and use 100% cpu in the first place? I'm not an idiot, you know. If it was possible to get this to work, I'd have done it.

    Same goes for using direct IP, tried it AGES go. No difference whatsoever.

    This compile either doesn't work, or doesn't work with Miami. I'll be sticking with Olaf's version, or waiting for a working update. Although, there won't be an update if everybody just accepts the broken version with "WOW!" and smileys. Like the dosbox compile that's never worked.

    Dosbox works here and samba works here, too.

    You can try this line to see if samba works locally

    MIAMI/Samba/bin> smbclient -L 127.0.0.1

    Here it gives :

    Domain=[MYGROUP] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 3.0.4]

    Sharename Type Comment
    --------- ---- -------
    All Disk All volumes in the system
    IPC$ IPC IPC Service (Tester)
    ADMIN$ IPC IPC Service (Tester)
    Domain=[MYGROUP] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 3.0.4]

    Server Comment

    PEGASOS Tester

    Workgroup Master

    @Robin

    I already said it works locally, it just doesn't work remotely!

    And no version of DOSBox ever worked here (except on Linux). They just hang the machine or throw hits when run.
