The cult classic DEFCON by Introversion Software (2006) — the minimalist "WarGames"-style strategy game of global nuclear war — has been ported to MorphOS.
This is a full PowerPC conversion: the whole world is simulated in real time, wrapped in DEFCON's signature vector look in military-radar colours. Single-player against CPU opponents is fully playable — from the menu, through placing your forces (radars, silos, fleets), to launching the war.
The port involved a substantial rework of the networking layer (DEFCON runs a local server and client) to work correctly with MorphOS's per-task bsdsocket.library, a fixed shutdown order (audio before SDL_Quit), reliable reclaiming of the server port after a restart, and a series of memory bugs caught with a native x86-64 + Valgrind harness. It's built on PowerSDL (SDL 1.2) and TinyGL (OpenGL).
Please note: this release contains the port only. The game data is commercial (property of Introversion Software) — you must supply it from your own legally purchased copy of DEFCON (Steam, GOG, etc.): simply copy main.dat, sounds.dat and the localisation folder into the game drawer. Full instructions are in the included README.
Requirements: MorphOS 3.x (PowerPC), PowerSDL, TinyGL, your own copy of DEFCON.
