Posted By: ASiegel. on 2023/5/13 13:50:34
Bounty for improved OpenGL support and new graphics card drivers

The MorphOS development team is proud to announce the public release of MorphOS 3.18! This new release includes several new applications such as Hex - a scriptable file/RAM/disk hex editor, ArchiveIt - a ZIP archiver/unarchiver application and Thermals - an app displaying thermal and fan information and graphs.

In addition, MorphOS 3.18 supports Samba 2 and 3 network share browsing and mounting in the Ambient desktop.

Radeon drivers have been updated to better support dual monitors, more graphics card models and 3D, including updated TinyGL library and drivers. We have also improved Realtek 8168 ethernet drivers with support for more card variants and enhanced networking stability on PCI express systems like PowerMac G5 11,2. USB input device connectivity issues on supported CyrusPlus 5040 systems have been corrected.

Many other system components and libraries have also been bugfixed and improved, including MUI, Netstack, Filesysbox.

For a more extensive overview of the changes included in MorphOS 3.18, please read our release notes.

We strongly urge new users to carefully read our installation and troubleshooting guides before they attempt to install MorphOS for the first time. Existing users can upgrade via the familiar procedure but are encouraged to read the guides as well. MorphOS 3.18 is available for download in our files section.

I updated MOS on my PowerBook G4 without any problems.
Very "fat" and very important for me update.

Network works very very good. I disabled SMBv1 on my NAS (Synology DS220plus with DSM7) and now MorphOS has access to all network folders (shared and home) using SMBv2/v3. I was waiting for possibility disable SMBv1 in my local network! Everything works without any configuration. Devices in network are visible immediately - I just log in and... it works. Very good work MOSTeam!

Now I will check other new features...

    Thank you very much MOSTeam!

Seems to be a massive update. Congratulations.
Unfortunately, TinyRave hasn't made it into this release apparently.

I like the change of boot the Mac with Alt, to choose between the hard disc with the system installed or the Cd-Rom with the new installation.
This version should have been 4.0 by now.
But thank you MorphOs Team fo the free updates the best choice to buy a Amiga NG system...

I dont remember if previous versions wiped out previous settings or not, but this one doesnt. Updated from 3.17 on my PB G4 to 3.18 and one thing I immediately noticed is I can now see everything on the network. OpenMediVault found, double clicked on a share, prompted for a un/pwd and it worked! Still playing with it. A++

They didn't, thanks to the segregation into SYS:, where your settings are, and MOSSYS:, where the system files are installed to and updated.

Upgrade from 3.17 to 3.18 went without a hitch. New network browsing functionality works great, thanks a lot, very nice surprise for me!

Games which in the previous version had issues (e.g. foobiliard, neverball, neverputt, etc.) now work great.

Overall, a very nice release making MOS more and more usable.

For the time being, it is a joke tool indeed. :)

I planned to release that tool for 3.18 but it wasn't enough mature to my taste and I forgot to think about removing that icon...

    Will be fixed in 3.19.

Will the fix be that the icon gets removed or that the binary will be included?

Odd revision contains only bugfixes. Icon will be removed.

I've come across the situation that the iMac Brightness adjustment keys (F1 and F2) conflicts with the PageStream Toolbox keyboard shortcut selection keys (F1 - Object Tool, F2 - Text tool - bear in mind that there are other F? Keys that are assigned for use with the Toolbox function buttons with PageStream), and as a result it is necessary to deactivate the iMac Brightness key setting (remove checkmark) while using PageStream.

Is there a way to allow either a modifier key (Control, Alt/Option, or Command keys) to ensure that the iMac Brightness key(s) do not conflict with the PageStream Toolbox shortcut keys in the first place? :-?

Or, allow a user to set/choose the iMac Brightness keyboard shortcut key(s) to suit their own setup? :-?
