Software : : Iris 0.98 with new WebKit
Posted By: jacadcaps. on 2021/1/3 15:38:49
Iris 0.98 is now available. The new version uses the same WebKit as Wayfarer 1.10 for viewing, writing emails and printing. It also comes with the same loader / bug report mechanism as the browser. Viewing emails in subwindows has been streamlined with new Previous/Next email buttons. SMTP/IMAP flows have been improved and POP3 support fixed. Several use-after-free bugs were addressed for improved stability.

Iris is now available in German, French, Turkish and Finnish thanks to the hard work of the MorphOS' Translators.

    Hey, thanks for the update!

FYI, IRIS reports and downloads the Hollywood.key (which comes as attachment) as Hollywood.key.bin but when accessing the mail from Wayfarer (gmail) it's listed correct as Hollywood.Key.

If accidentally user doesn't notice and proceeds with installation, pointing on the Hollywood.key.bin will break the installer. I can send you the key and/or mail for you to check if needed, let me know:)

Also, latest IRIS seems more unstable than previous versions, at least for me. I 've send you of course the bug reports (really cool and streamlined feature).

Yeah, seen your reports. Please try to send one from 0.99 if you still encounter this.

As for file extensions, I'll have to think about it. This is related to MIME type handling.

Nooo, I don't agree. From my point of view this is "major", not "minor". I love the Iris from versoin 0.99 beta. For me 0.99 is not beta. This is the first final version! 😃
Thank you for handling problems of my strange mail-server. 👍

    Iris 0.100 beta:
    - Faster folder index loading/saving
    - Fixed a crash in loader when closing Iris on its own screen
    - Fixed a crash when closing email sub-windows
    - Implemented an online update check

Loading/saving folder index is faster - I can confirm it. It is faster on my PowerBook G4 with HDD.

Yeah well, something I've noticed when playing with Koprofiler (another project, to be released soon ;)... The load routine was often stalling on FGets()/Read() in my file reader class. Hm... why aren't I using asyncio for this? Well, turns out I already had a subclass using asyncio.library, just forgotten to switch the index load/save routines to that class. Was literally a IrisFileLoader > IrisAsyncFileLoader change in the source :/

Happens when you're 5 years into the project as big as Iris I guess.

Hey, just updated on version 0.100 but Inbox of gmail now appears empty :/

Rebooted but no go. Log doesn't show any error and states that it synchonizes correctly.

All other folders appear working though (sent items, spam folder, important, all mails - including received mails on inbox - etc)..

Any idea what to do to resolve it?

Folder menu has a reload index option. Try that.

You need debug binaries for the profiled components, so it'll be limited a bit by that, but this is how it looks like.

Two profilers are coming in the next SDK: Koprofiler, which was created to help speed up Iris' folder loading code and EventProfiler, which I recently wrote in order to profile some Wayfarer issues. EventProfiler collects data from multiple threads and then builds a webpage based on the same code that Chrome has built-in for its own developer tools. That data can then be viewed in a webbrowser (Wayfarer included) for analysis. An example can be found here.
