Software : : MorphOS is IBM "Ready"

No, not just the Pegasos-II, but MorphOS is also "IBM Ready." According to Genesi, this is a giant leap forward for our OS, our platform, and our community!

IBM's MorphOS Page

From IBM's Solution Pages:
Quote:

MorphOS is a carefully crafted blend of new ideas with tried and true techniques, all based around the new microkernel, Quark. Inspired by the efficiency found in the original Commodore Amiga and its remarkable multitasking OS, MorphOS brings a whole new dimension to personal computers. Designed from the ground up with the concept of shared resources from day one, MorphOS provides the ability to build up applications using shared system components. This efficient use of resources allows MorphOS a tight integration with software. As a result, MorphOS combines the elegance and efficiency of the older design with the power and performance of modern OSes.

In case any of our readers are wondering; yes, my opinion of the "Ready for IBM Technology" is the same as it ever was. However, I think this context is different in that it's not a chip manufacturer, but an active participant in our community that has obtained this "mark."

I have the feeling that this isn't the end goal, but only one stepping stone in the path leading to the future. No matter how you feel about the "Ready for IBM Technology" program, this is the first time in many years that a company from within the community has stepped up to the plate to begin the long process of healing and recovery that we've all wanted for a very long time.

Congradulations Genesi, and we hope for even bigger and brighter things in future.

Hi Warface, you can post it...;-)

What is important to remember now is that ANY operating system running on the Pegasos can NOW obtain this approval with Genesi sponsorship.

This is why you will start to see us support other operating systems like THIS ONE FOR OpenBSD. The idea is as expressed HERE about MDC and Phoenix (and their moderators Felix Schwarz and greenboy).

This is a great week for Genesi. First the PowerPC logo for the Pegasos and now Ready for IBM Technolgy for MorphOS!

    Congratulations to EVERYONE!!! :-D :-D :-D

    R&B :-)

MorphOS is Ready for IBM Technology? All delay with the announcement is forgiven! :-)

However, emphasizing that the Pegasos II will be compatible with all the cards supported by Pegasos I (despite AGP 1X) is still inadequate.

It's already "common belief" that it has disastrous graphic card support. Which - as I understand - is not the case.

Yes, im using an OBSD x86 box ( nat of routers sux ) for server and make nat and others things, i like can give the x86 to the trash and has a pegasos II G3 at 600mhz and a lot of ethernets on it and with obsd, put in in a very very small case with the 3com812, and have my little server with a ppc brain, low power consumtion, low noise... ;)

I NEED OpenBSD for Pegasos II and then i will can despite definetly of the x86 ####! :).

Im waiting support of pegasos on obsd, when the webpage for no-developers will be done ? and the page for developers?

It can mean many things, or nothing, depending on what happens after the fact. It is effectivly a flag on a ski slope. One of many hurdles to cross. In other words, it is a sign that something larger *may* be occurring--not that it is.

That is all there is to it. Many other companies apply for this, and it results in nothing what-so-ever. Others apply, and it results in hidden invisible deals that make both involved companies money--but aren't particularly newsworthy. Still other companies do this, and take it to the next step. All in all, as I've said everywhere now--It is a sign to look foreward to (hopefully) bigger and better things, but not a goal in and of itself.

I'm sure that it will be "spinned" out of proportion too. It is a "trophy" of sorts. Remember, this isn't a "we landed on the moon!" kind of excitement, but more of a "what comes next?" kind of excitement.

I'm just waiting to see what Ms. (mrs?) Su has to say :-P If it is a near carbon copy of the 50,000 others out there, I'm going to laugh... Everyone knows how I feel about "cookie cutter" press releases.
