    That's good news.
Since the release of MUI Royale Hollywood is really an option for more serious stuff. If you want to get into coding, Hollywood is a worthwhile consideration.

I want a demo of Hollywood to try out. It's not so cheap that I could buy it on an impulse.

Sorry, tolkien, I don't know enough about it to be more specific. But yes, I was under the impression that Hollywood had a MUI builder.

Which leads me to wonder what the Hollywood Designer program is for if not for GUI building?

Look here to see what the Designer is: Hollywood Designer

To summarize: It's an WYSIWYG editor for interactive presentations.

Are there any good example websites or apps available so that we can see what is achievable with Hollywood on the various platfomrs, ideally examples of games (simple or complicated), and other types of applications.

If I remember well there was a windows demo to try.
Hollywood is highly based on Lua. Each version is more interesting.

Designer is like Scala...buy use the hollywood engine and is powerfull.

I think Hollyppint is a pretty good example what can be done with Hollywood and MUI Royale. Sourcecode is available, too.
    http://sourceforge.net/projects/hollypaint/?source=directory

A few programs are shown here: http://forums.hollywood-mal.com/viewforum.php?f=7&sid=45b36f97123869ef333aeec0dbfd5bac

I wrote some scientific/educational stuff: http://via.i-networx.de/files.htm . While this is rather of special interest I am currently working on MUI based tool to embed meta-information into pictures, but it's not progressed enough yet to publically show it.

Thanks, a couple of the demos look interesting and the Gemz one in particular. Does all software require the player? I thought from the description that it generated native binaries for all the platforms? Is there a reason an Android version of Gemz wasn't built?

AFAIK the player only exists for Android, so only Android versions of Hollywood programs require it.

    Except for Android, it seems.
