MorphOS : : MorphOS 3.2 - Public Release
Posted By: ASiegel. on 2013/5/27 19:15:18
The MorphOS development team is proud to announce the public release of MorphOS 3.2, which introduces support for Power Mac G5 workstations, iBook G4 laptops and additional PowerBook G4 models. The 3.2 release also has a strong focus on improved network support with a completely new and improved NetStack core as well as support for wireless networks. In addition, there are several new network-related tools such as VNC client, a Remote Desktop Client and a tool showing detailed network statistics. As usual, the latest release also offers many new features and bug fixes. For an overview of the included changes, please read our release notes. We strongly urge new users to carefully read our installation and troubleshooting guides before they attempt to install MorphOS for the first time. Existing users can upgrade via the familiar procedure but are encouraged to read the guides as well. MorphOS 3.2 is available for download in our files section.

Something isnt working right... I go to boot off the CD on my MDD Mac G4, and after you click ok on the choose language and keyboard screen, complains and says the boot.img is too old.

That's because it's booted off the hard drive version.

I've burnt 2 CDRW on Macmini and Powerbook using OSX, neither are seen from the the choose boot screen, ie holding the alt key down, pressing C dosn't work either, browsing the CD looks fine, did someone forget to 'Bless' the boot image or something?

Reworked Netstack, r300 3D, Wireless networking, ALL G4 iBooks, ALL Radeon-equipped aluminium Powerbooks, ambient light sensors, new included applications, new screenbar modules, G5 support, etc...

    Big update!

I'm guessing from the 'targetted models' of the G5 support section that other models 'may just work'. Is it locked down to a range of system IDs/model numbers?

Downloading now to update various machines. Thankyou and congratulations to everyone involved for pulling it all together.

    I got it to install...

If you have the current 3.1 installed, you just have to replace the boot.img on your boot patition frrom the /mac_ppc32/boot.img file. Course this is if you are using G4. 8-)

Tried that, goes to the Open Firmware screen, does it need to 'blessed' or something?

Edited to add, got it working on my Mac mini had to copy all the files from that folder

Nice surprise. I looked but didn't see anything about powerbooks (or ibooks) putting out higher resolution external displays. Has anyone tested this yet?

We've identified the issue that makes the ISO unbootable, and are now trying to identify the root cause for the problem.

Apologies for the trouble this has caused. We're looking to fix the issue as soon as possible.

    Some notes about the issue:

    - The problem appears to be in genisoimage, the application used to master the MorphOS ISO image. Sometimes it creates a HFS hybrid ISO image with corrupt HFS filesystem. The exact circumstances that trigger the corruption remain unknown at the moment, but we're able to work around the issue for now.

    - The corrupt HFS effectively makes the OF unable to read the boot.img from the CD when 'c' key is pressed (this is due to the OF boot script appearing empty). Instead the boot.img is read from the HDD (presumably this happened for the testers and thus the issue went unnoticed). For anyone attempting to upgrade from 3.1 to 3.2 and getting a "your boot.img is too old" requester ran into this problem.

    - An attempt to boot the boot.img manually from OF leads to a crash since the boot.img stored on the corrupt HFS is incomplete.

    - Copying the boot.img from the ISO part of the hybrid CD to HDD and booting the system from this boot.img effectively works around the issue. In this case the corrupt HFS is effectively bypassed. (Such manual update procedure is used by some testers and also made it harder to notice the issue).

New ISOs are now online. This new image should resolve the issue of not being able to boot the ISO properly.

If you however managed to install the earlier ISO (via copying the boot.img manually for instance) there is no need to install or upgrade again.

Apologies again for the inconvenience caused.

If you have the current 3.1 installed, you just have to replace the boot.img on your boot patition frrom the /mac_ppc32/boot.img file. Course this is if you are using G4. 8-)

Thanks for the suggestion, it works, and now I have MOS 3.2 in my MacMini.

Unfortunately Ambient panels have a lot of problems. Saving subpanels doesn't work. If panel has enabled autozipping, subpanel can't be hided after zipping main panel. If I enable autozipping, after boot of MorphOS, I can't open panel. I am able to open panel only when I drag the panel. Deleting panel with subpanel is ended with crash. I would like to at least autozipping which works like in MorphOS 3.1...

How long should this install take?

It's at 1195 files/42501kb copied at the moment on my update install (Mac Mini G4) but now I've got the Unregistered requester pop up so it's crawled to a snail's pace!

Guess this one is an overnight jobbie then? 3.0/1 updated in around 5 mins for me.

Took a few minutes only, even on Efika it was only about 15 minutes or so (haven't stopwatched it).

If 30 min problem still stays, copy the appropiate boot.img to your hfs boot partition, boot normally off your hd (i.e.3.2 boot.img, but 3.1 installation, advantage: you're in registered environment and don't run in the timeout trap), then mount the iso and start the iWizzard from the mounted iso. Worked well for me that way on all my three updated machines.

Odd how it took so long for me then, sadly it also corrupted my DH1 partition and I've had to reformat it and start-over, but it's been around 40 mins now as well and it's slowly installing files.

Open Prefs/SFS and have a look at the Cache settings, after a reformat they are set to default values, which are not the best.

It seems that this release has more than just one issue.. And surely it has not come out in short time!

I already reported and explained the problem here on the forum, like other users did.
If with "Bugreport" you mean that I must rewrite it in the right place like the morphos mailing list, than I'll do it as soon as I have some spare time to resuscitate Yam.

So my suspects were right: the problem is that I wrote what is the issue here and technically it is not correct..

First: Hi CISC. Still seeing furry things all funny?? :-D

I sent a bugreport... Maybe. I have a bug to report about Bugreport.
I get a yellow lamp and it says sent. The Send button is shaded out, but so is the Ok button to close the window.
I was able to save it, however, to hard drive.
