Posted By: takemehomegrandma. on 2011/7/21 21:40:33
Fab released OWB 1.13 today, containing these new features and updates: (Read more)

- 16.07.2011: OWB 1.13
- Updated to WebKit r90337 (July 2011).
- Updated OpenSSL to 1.0.0d.
- Updated SSL certificates.
- Added SpellChecker library support. Dictionaries are expected in that kind
of path: LOCALE:dictionaries/<language>/base.dic
To enable spellchecker, use contextmenu in a text/textarea element and
enable "Check Spelling While Typing".
- Added arrows to <select> element default style, to differentiate it from
a plain text element.
- Added middle mouse button scrolling.
- Implemented a kind of fullscreen display, triggered on/off with F11 key.
- Attempt to fix a problem with cookies subdomain handling.
- Added a media control panel (play/pause/seek/volume) in fullwindow mode (overlay).
It can be hidden/shown with middle mouse button.
- Fixed an issue with some vimeo links that prevented videos from being played.
- Fixed an application deadlock that happened when closing a page while a WebM
video was still in seeking phase.
- Fixed CSS issues in builtin media player stylesheet.
- Updated Youtube.js to enforce container height after recent Youtube changes,
so that media controls aren't cropped.
- Added "OWB_DISABLE_MOBILE_COMPRESSION" ENV option to disable mobile compression (hello pampers :)).

Download it from here: http://fabportnawak.free.fr/owb/

    About spellchecker.library

base.dic is plain text file with a single word per line.

Some english dictionary is available here ranging from 22K up to 1.7M words:

For french, une liste propre est disponible ici :
    http://www.pallier.org/ressources/dicofr/dicofr.html

For other tongues, feel free to complete in this very thread your best find.

Hello Fab ;) Thanks for that release!

EDIT: Another thing, I don't understand why some ppl are trying to make pressure to change the name of browser. What da hell is wrong with OWB? I like it.

Fab is doing better and better!! This OWB release is really impressive!!!
About spell checking I found this for italian language:
    http://gilda.it/giochidiparole/elenchi.htm
There are different files and the Mark.zip file is the most complete with almost 705.000 words.
But I have a question: I enabled Check Spelling While Typing and selected language but it seems not to work.. Or is working and I'm missing something...

    Edit:
Checked again spell checker and everything is working fine. =)
Maybe I had done some errors....

Hurrah some more for Fab! Sometimes I wonder how this OS would be doing if not for Fab's OWB and his versions of MPlayer. I bet, not as well!

I see there's an SVG version and and SVG-less version. As I understand it, SVG is a open-source technology that stops graphics from becoming pixelated when they are blown up. Should I support open-source and better graphics, or should I use the SVG-less version to save on memory and speed up operations?

Here's a scoop... i'll probably go for Odyssey (Web Browser). But i wasn't bored enough to change the related strings (some of them being hardcoded, shame on me). :)

Sorry for those who don't like the chosen name (but they can still call it OWB that way :)).

    > As I understand it, SVG is a open-source technology

SVG is an open specification that has open source as well as closed source implementations.

    > Should I support open-source and better graphics, or should I use the
    > SVG-less version to save on memory and speed up operations?

If you are short of RAM (otherwise the answer would be obvious) you should ask yourself how badly you need to be able to view SVG graphics. A place where I stumble upon them regularly are the Wikimedia projects like Wikipedia:

    http://www.google.com/search?q=site:upload.wikimedia.org+filetype:svg

Besides, I don't think that with non-SVG graphics the non-SVG version of OWB is any faster than the SVG-capable version.

Nice way to do it, Fab, and I hope you mark it w. the new name proudly, but you could also consider other "O" words like Octopus or Otto or Outcaster or Omni or Outreach.

I found that OWB has repeatable problems with HTTPS. If you try for instance any page linked from http://www.google.com/search?q=site:www-950.ibm.com/events/ (1) you'll see that none works and throws "Error 35: SSL connect error". AWeb with AmiSSL can connect to those without problems. Any page linked from http://www.google.com/search?q=site:www-01.ibm.com/chips/ (2) on the other hand works fine in OWB too.
Now the only differences between (1) and (2) that I as a mere user can see is that (1) uses DES-CBC3-SHA as encryption while (2) uses AES256-SHA and that (1) seems to be connected through a proxy server ("IBM-PROXY-WTE") while (2) is not.
    Any idea anyone?

Thanks for this release, very good new features.

But it's a pity that you don't make these 'lite' versions anymore, on an Efika even the NoSVG versions sucks too much memory...
On my Efika (MorphOS 2.7) I'm using OWB 1.3 lite, which is IMHO a good comprimise between features and memory consumption.

In my opinion, OWB isn't really usable on Efika, even with the lite version. Death due to lack of memory is always around the corner. :)
The thing is it's already a pain to maintain both svg and non svg versions. Adding a third makes it even more painful (adds yet 3 more hours of compilation).

    @Andreas_Wolf

Ah well, switching to newer OpenSSL also fixed many other sites. I don't know yet why it breaks with ibm website (the encryption method is supported in the current build, anyway).

[edit] Weird things going on with quotes when editing. :)

    > switching to newer OpenSSL also fixed many other sites.

Just to clarify, I don't know if the problem I reported doesn't occur with prior versions of OWB (i.e. before OpenSSL 1.0.0d). I just know that it doesn't work in OWB 1.13 but does work in AWeb+AmiSSL (which is based on OpenSSL 0.9.7g).

    > I don't know yet why it breaks with ibm website

The funny thing is that it breaks on one IBM host but not on the other.

    > the encryption method is supported in the current build, anyway

    Okay, good to know.

I hear the needs of Efika users and repeat my call for MorphOS Team, like Laire, to offer a un-complex configuration option to allow a portion of the gfx card RAM (like the 256 megs on some Radeon 9250s) to be mapped to system RAM, in order to run OWB and other apps better on those less-powerful systems.

Just checked, and it also didn't work before 1.13, which reassures me. It's not regression, at least. :)

Well, with the lite version I'm able to open two or even three tabs with rather complex websites (I've got 85MB free RAM at boottime), so IMO it's quite usable. But I guess a more recent lite version would eat more memory?

You consistently prove on a month to month basis that you are truly one of the elite amiga coders! Thanks for your work and dedication. Looks like tons of cool new features and fixes, wish I was in LA with my Peg to try it..

btw When kas1e's port of owb comes out for os4 how long do you think before they are in reach of your latest versions?

I tried it the right place, didn't work there, so I tried the 'naught' way.

    So to speak.

Now I got it working with the spellchecker.library i've put it back to where it should be.

So after investigation, your site works again when compiling with an older OpenSSL (0.9.8o), but then other sites like https://*.wiki.kernel.org don't work anymore (which were fixed with 1.0.0d).

So it's a bit tricky to solve this situation. :)

    Who needs Linux anyway ;)

Seriously - thanks for looking into it.
It would be great if you can fix it.
But its not that terrible to switch to 1.12 for online banking.

Here is a way that might help to get dictionary in your language.

Go to the webpage for firefox addons, and search for your countrys dictionary. I guess a lot of languages are available (I just checked for norwegian and swedish).
(you might need to use a computer with firefox to be able to do this)

Right-click on the "add to firefox" area, so that you can download and save the resulting xpi file.

Then located the xpi file and rename its extension to zip.

Open the file and extract the dictionary file.

If you open the text file you will notice its in plain text, and some lines have backslash and some extra characters.

Also there might be a few lines at the beginning of the file that you can delete.

For the backslash and the extra characters I did open the file in ecxel, and using backslash as a trigger for the separator. This way I could copy the A column and paste it into a text document afterward.

The result is a pure text one-word-per-line file.

Same here, even with WebM enabled.

    At least this still works.

It also didn't do this with 1.13 half a day ago.

I don't get this. Neither with their HTML5 player nor with the builtin HTML5 player used when the link is only available as Flash (youtube.js userscript), and both WebM and H264 are still available and working. And no need to spoof.

On the other hand, they indeed changed something and broke fullscreen in HTML5 mode, which i fixed (again). Get http://fabportnawak.free.fr/owb/scripts/YouTube_Fullscreen_Fix.js
