Press : : Benchmark comparison between AmigaOS 4.1 & MorphOS 2.3
Posted By: Daff. on 2009/8/11 20:13:44
The magazine Obligement published today a benchmark comparison of AmigaOS 4.1 and MorphOS 2.3 running on a Pegasos II. The overall comparisons is based on 20 benchmark categories, which include boot time, processor, 3D, USB, IDE hard disk, WarpOS emulation, 68k emulation, etc. No subjective comparison was made, all benchmarks are based strictly on numbers.

The article was written in French but very easy to understand. You may read it at http://obligement.free.fr/articles/amigaos41_vs_morphos23.php

    An english translation can be found here

    It was quite interesting reading. Will there be a site collecting the top100 excuses why OS4 is behind MorphOS at most of the tests? :-)

    2) Because there is a lot less passion in AOS development team. MOS team seems to have more fun developing MOS and it shows in the quality of their work.

    Not long now and I will have enough cash to purchase MOS2, can't wait! :)

    It would be interesting to see this test done all over again, but on a Pegasos 2 *G3*, to see to what degree the impact of Altivec is.
    MorphOS is Amiga done right! :-)
    MorphOS NG will be AROS done right! :-)

    Top excuses:

    1. OS4.1 is just beta
    2. OS4.1 is not optimized (they basically just took the code and recompiled it.. LOL)
    3. The power supply was flaking out
    4. The Pegasos II was designed to run OS4.1 slower than MorphOS
    5. They should have compared MorphOS on a SAM vs. OS4.1
    6.....

    fill in the rest

    7. It's not because of the MorphOS programmers are more competent, it's because MorphOS has been developed for a much longer time and consists of more than 50% AROS source code.

    MorphOS NG will be AROS done right! :-)

    If that statement is true, then it's a pain that a closed source and expensive software makes profit from open source software... But, in all, I think MorphOS is a high quality product, only of difficult application, mostly because it only works on special computers.

    9) Who cares about speed! OS4 rocks!!!!!!! Dancing bananas
    10) Pegasos OF contains some malicuous, uncommented and obscure code like this :

    if OS=OS4 then
    speed=slow_as_hell
    else
    speed=superfast
    end if

    OS4 team should put a REM at the start of the statement but the Peg is a f####g undocumented and obscure hw so they can't! Damn Genesi, burn in h3ll!!!!!!!!!! :-)

    11. OS4 initializes the memory controller in a different way
    12. OS4 has more memory protection than MorphOS

    14. Because MorphOS coders used Altivec while OS4 team not! We'll soon open a bounty to send the book "Altivec for dummies" to OS4 team!
