Software : : Origyn Web Browser v1.1

Origyn Web Browser v1.1Fabien "Fab" Coeurjoly has updated his MorphOS port of the Origyn Web Browser. This web browser is based on the powerful WebKit engine which is also used by Apple's Safari or Google's Chrome.

Version 1.1 is available in three editions, namely the full browser (owb-morphos-1.1.lha), a version without SVG support (owb-morphos-1.1-nosvg.lha) and "OWB Lite" which excludes support for SVG and for codepages other than UTF-8 and Latin-1. The two extra editions are primarily intented to be used on systems that feature only low amounts of memory (Efika).

System requirements:‏
MorphOS 2.x is strongly recommended but it can still work on a 1.4.x setup if a recent MUI snapshot (2007) is installed. The full browser requires about 5MB of disk space and at least 35MB of free system memory. (The No-SVG and Lite editions of OWB may require different amounts of disk space and system memory.)

The highlights of the new version are as follows::
  • Updated to 12.02.2009 SVN (GaleKing). It at least fixes gifanims, amongst many other things.‏
  • Added libICU support (which makes codepage actually work).
  • Added persistant cookies saving.
  • Added history feature in back and forward buttons contextmenus.
  • Reworked quicklink edition in bookmark window. Their look and layout is now configurable and their edition is done in realtime
  • Added download speed in download window.‏‏
  • Middlebutton doubleclick now creates a new tab in background.
  • Contextual cursors support (MorphOS 2.x only).
  • Added support for Javascript confirm alert and Javascript window.close().
  • Added network connection manager window.
  • Added a feedback requester for connection failures (connection refused, unknown hostname, ...)
  • Added more settings (fonts families, interface settings, maximum active connections, javascript, ...)
  • Fixed deadkeys input (i.e for typing ‏, ‏,... characters with some keymaps).
  • Fixed a crash when directly closing a tab that hadn't been shown yet.

Download it here.

Rockin' FAB! This looks absolutely killer!

Why did you had to add JavaScript support for certain dialog boxes? Doesn't Origyn already have a full JavaScript engine?

    Fab is the man!

Edit: Works really well on my Peg1 w/ MorphOS 1.4.5 and on my Efika running MorphOS 2.2.

    Cool!!!

It shows properly cyrillic characters on all tested pages (KOI-8r, cp1251, UTF-8); and it's possible to make posts on pages with codesets cp1251 and UTF-8 (KOI-8r not tested, but if it works fine here...).

    Thank you!

Thank you very much Fab, for version 1.1 and for the Lite builds! ;-)
The first version was surprisingly good. I can't wait to try the new one.

logging to yahoo works here. But i suspect most of the issues some have (when something doesn't work) is unfortunately related to memory consumption (so efika users :)). Not much to do about that, though.
