MorphOS: OpenRedAlert Project

Fab and SixK have been working on the OpenRedAlert
project for MorphOS (version 407). It is from the strategy game Command & Conquer: Red Alert.  (port is based on SDL)  This is an early release (alpha/beta), so there are bugs to be worked out.

Downloads:
openredalert407.tar.gz (717 KB)
RedAlert1_SovietDisc.rar (502 MB)
RedAlert1_AlliedDisc.rar (500 MB)

Games can use both the original game files as well as the demo files.  Simply copy the files MAIN.MIX and REDALERT.MIX in the directory data / mix.  The first part of the Red Alert series is now officially supported by Electronic Arts released for free download. You can find the original files at different C&C fan-sites, as well as at the fileplanet page if you are having trouble with the above links.

With the MorphOS version one can play missions and in skirmish mode against the computer.  Due to a possible mistake in the SDL_Mixer.library MorphOS but the videos were off.  Again, it should be noted that crashes may occur, particularly in the first level of the single player mode and when  quitting the game.

    Played through first level fine..

    But some problems->

When moving units all the way to the corners of the map they disappear, the shadow is still there...

Also the message on first level said -> get einstein to the helicopter.. no einstein or helicopter...

And how to see the mission points ?

Looking good else, no crashes or anything...

Yes, the engine isn't fully operational nor bugfree yet. Far from it : missing animations, objects, especially in campaign mode i guess) and the code is also questionable in some parts, "stability-wise".

AFAIK, there's only one developer working on openredalert currently. I hope he'll improve that.

The morphos recompilation can give an idea of the current state of this project, but it will certainly not solve the internal lacks or bugs of this project. :)

i have tested it a bit, and it's a good start. not very stable, but else it's great to play such game on my pegasos machine.

btw, hope it will be playable also in different resolutions, than the 640x400 (or what's that) :)

anyway, great work, and please go on!

    bye, MarK.

If you have a Peg2, I recommend you to play in 1024x768 ...

Just run the game with this parameters :
    OpenRa -w 1024 -h 768

You can have more options adding --help to the command line.

I would have preferred Softwoods Dune2000 but hey ... Red Alert will do just fine.

    Keep up the good work
