Third public beta of Sputnik web browserA new public beta version of the web browser Sputnik has been released. Sputnik is based on KHMTL / Webcore, thus shares a substantial amount of source code with Apple's Safari and KDE's Konqueror. Despite its beta status, Sputnik features by far the most modern browser engine available to MorphOS users today.

Changes in the third beta include but are not limited to the following items:
  • greatly enhanced stability
  • reduced memory usage
  • upgraded to a more recent browser engine version
  • improved overall speed
  • added context menus
  • websites featuring dynamic content work much better now
  • improved download manager
  • added toolbar graphics
  • added support for favicons
  • improved frames support
  • improved support for CP-125X
  • fixed a large amount of bugs (redirections, SSL, settings, JavaScript, image rendering and a lot more)
  • added a new about:info page
  • added lamps that indicate the current loading status when accessing data on the internet
  • extended the included ARexx port

Great one master; it's pretty good..I might even have to ditch IB for this release. Though...try news.bbc.co.uk : almost there ;)

Sounds like great progress.. but whats left to do before work on the OS4 bounty version can start? I'm hoping the 3000 EURO will help motivate you!

P.S. its great to hear that stability is getting better. It can be tough writing stable software. I KNOW!!

    Hi,
I saw 2nd Sputnik beta working on Efika during our Amimajowka 2k7
party in Krakow. It was running under MOS2.0 on Jacek Piszczek's Efika
and its speed seemed to be OK.
Here http://tdolphin.org/amikrak/ (soory - only polish) you can find
some photos, one is with Sputnik (site with text "Exec") on Efika.

Great news! I really like it. It now seems to have reached the state to be used as standard browser on MOS.

Very cool it definitely crossed the border from impressive- but-dont-touch-it to actually usable.

    Thanks Marcik.

Great work marcik. Can't wait to try it. Can someone do a comprehensive test of Sputnik with key websites such as yahoo, ebay, etc? To check compability..

Working really nice so far, marcik!

I had to keep my promise, I said I would have donated again as soon as
Sputnik could handle PayPal, and that time has come (I had to login in
another tab before clicking on the donate button, but it worked -
hopefully soonish the bounties will be updated and will be operative
again). And that's just one of the improvements.

    Kind regards,
    Andrea

Made a quick and dirty alternate icon for Sputnik (b means thinner tail). Not a miracle, so if and when I will have some more time I'll give it another shot. Pick it up if interested at:
