Typical spin job. Although I doubt it will phase the rabid Eyetech fans much, truth and logic seldom does.

    Interesting, and amusing

There was a doubt in my mind after reading this
that MAI was actually JUST a *member* partner,
but then I found out they really was.
Incase someone else missed that too, its
on one of the pages linked to, the one
    that mentions PowerPC750FX and Linux..
    "Partner Level: member"

     8-)

Wow! Nice piece of work, not...
I suggest you read the FULL press release from MAI:

    [url=http://www.mai.com/news&events/PressRelease021003.html/url]

    Specifically the second paragraph;

"MAI Logic has successfully developed optimized supporting devices and reference designs for PowerPCTM microprocessor application platforms which have passed a rigorous PowerPCTM compatibility validation testing process by IBM Microelectronics labs," said Lisa Su, Director of PowerPCTM and emerging products, IBM Microelectronics. "Solutions like MAI's 'Ready for IBM Technology' chipset and evaluation systems give developers more ways to enhance their applications, resulting in improved time to market, more cost effective designs, and improved performance products by our OEM customers."

Now " a rigorous PowerPCTM compatibility validation testing process by IBM Microelectronics labs" does not sound like "SELF-verification", does it? :-?

    @ Fiel and one_to_many

Thank you for your extra facts and pointers. I've included the items mentioned, and given you guys credit in the article. I don't know about you, but I'm really beginning to wonder about Mai's integrity!

If you look up some other companies
that have gotten this Ready For IBM,
they too have a few lines from this Lisa Su
in their announcements. Yeah, its a bit
strange I admit. The answer could be
that this Lisa Su does not do much of actual
checking but "assumes" all is okey (!).
There are three different levels of this
"validation", we know MAI has the lowest level.
    What should Lisa say ?
"MAI has sent us an email and phonenumber
and we are therefore certain they are very
    qualified " ?
I would rather think, this "standard" phrasing
is used on all beeing validated, with just a little
twist for each separate occasion. Pherhaps
a little phone-interview is done before.

Edit: but youre right, its not water-tight..yet :-)
Edit2: 8-) On the other hand, we also KNOW that
the parten level MAI has, *does not require* ANY
    tests! <repeat previous sentece>
May be they have tested them anyway ? 8-)

The problem, as I see it, isn't so much that Mai has done this. No, the problem really boils down to company after company in the technology industry does this very same thing. As suggested above, Ms/Mrs Su has said nearly the exact same words for other "partners."

I should update the article propor with that bit. Mai isn't the only one that does this, so we, as consumers, need to watch out for this sort of thing whether we are fooling with a Pegasos/A1 or with a PC part from the local computer super-store.

Besides, sometimes this "verification" can actually lead to something. It's just a matter of what happens after the fact. So, really, it could eventually mean something. That is probably the whole purpose of it.
