What would be great and help a lot would be the links where to buy all the stuff. Do you think you could post this?

    Hello Christoph!
    I started from those links:

    Hi Jambalah,

buhhh that was already a lot of work to write all this, thanks very much!

As I do have 2 of these 2.7 GHz PM's but do not use them, because to risky that they leak,
I will have a look at all this and buy the stuff in order to service them. Let's see...

    Thanks again for your help.

    With best regards

I replaced my LCS cooling on my 2,7GHz Morphos Machine temporarly to non liquid. Now when about 26-27C on my room the cpu temperature is constantly 84C fans quiet. Even under Blender rendering.

Now the question is, if i recalibrate the temperature with apple service cd this can be better, or calibration has only sense for only OSX?

Don't they still leak even in storage?

On my Powermac 3,3 with Newertech CPU module (1,6Ghz) a CPU temperature of 37,5 °C is reported, which seems to be a valid value.

Well my 1.8GHz Sonnet is freezing at -0.8°C !!

The Display on my 3.5" fan-controller says 42°C.

Mmmmm, which one to trust ;)

My dual 2.7 PowerMAc G5 seems to have some problems.
Temperature is now increased til 85.5 C degrees (fluctuating between + 0.2 / 0.4) and doing an examination with 2.5.8 ASD revealed problem on temperature sensor CPUB AD 7417 AD1 with an error message:: "Error thermal reads above alarm settings 2".
I did a thermal calibration and CPU 1 error appeared, checked sensor again and no errors but still 86.5 C degrees and still CPU 1 error on thermal calibration.
I'm going to investigate and maybe trying to disable the CPU 1.

My fan cooled DP 2.7 GHz G5 idles around 80-82 degrees under MorphOS and the fans seem to run more often than under OSX.

They don't run at all for several minutes and then they kick in at full speed like a jet engine for a minute or two then wind down again.

I've not had the time to test it under any kind of heavy load really but I imagine the fans will run at full pelt given enough work to do as just compiling short C programs kicks in the fans immediately. Interestingly, GCC seems to cause the fans to work harder than VBCC does when compiling the same code.

When the kids are back at school after the summer holiday I will try to find time to do some better testing and see what happens.

Can you get a copy of the ASD cd so you can try to run a calibration to see if it successfully calibrates? I only tried one set of 2.7s and it wont calibrate right, but my 2.5ghz air cooled setup passed.

Yeah sure, which version number of ASD is the most recent that supports the 2.7 DP? 2.5.8?

I believe that was the correct version for the G5.

Downloaderising as we speak, but the torrent speed is terrible so it'll probably take a few days to complete at this rate.

Will let you know what happens once I've run the tests on the G5.

Well, I dismounted the cpu unit and replaced cpu 1 (the one below assuming G5 stands vertically) since ASD diagnostic showed an error checking AD 7417 AD1 sensor. Assembled cpu unit, reseated and power on. After the chimes sound G5 booted MorphOS and I immediately noticed the difference: low temperature (started from 66 C degrees to 82) and quiet fans. I booted the ASD cd and checked for thermal calibration wich reporting an error message explaining that wrong values were found and reccomending to perform calibration. Did it and both cpu passed. Reboot and MorphOS runs ok with temperature between 80.9 and 81.1 and fans really quiet. I'm really satisfied! Let's check how it will go next days.

Sorry to read your post only now but if you should encounter any problem downloading 2.5.8 let me know if I coul help in any way.

Thanks, the torrent is coming down steadily so i'll just have to be patient. :)

I haven't got the money to register MorphOS for my G5 at the moment after spending a lot of money upgrading and registering my PowerBook so the 30 minute time out pisses me of and causes me to not bother using it at the moment.

Once I've registered it will be anothe story as I'll use it as my main development machine as the PB feels a tad slow when compiling C as I've got used to lighning fast Intel hardware over the years.

The ASD won't help you, MorphOS doesn't support power saving on G5s.
I see the jimmies have been rustled.

It is certainly high, but it's still within the limits.
