FLAC support for Reggae

I've started a bounty for FLAC audio compression support in Reggae library. The bounty assumes both decoding and encoding support. Encoding will of course use savers API developed in my previous bounty. Any audio application using Reggae will get FLAC support automatically.

    Bounty on MorphOS.pl

I will take up the bounty if it crosses a threshold of 1600 PLN which is about 400 euro. Ask here if you have any questions or doubts. I estimate the time needed to complete all the stages will be 5 months. My plan is not to use the reference implementation (in any other way than, well, reference), but writing heavily optimized one.

I meant the paypal page but I`ve done it now, Great Britain is `wielka Brytania` in Polish. I could have just gone outside and asked as there are many Poles living in my area!

As Geit said English is below, I also have added subtitles to make it easier to notice.

Well, I've tested this, I've entered 2000 being on MorphOS.pl, then I've clicked the PayPal button, and then switched the country to United Kingdom. It still kept the 2000.

It may be something to do with NoScript (I`m on a PC atm) - I`ll try OWB instead.
I`ll get it figured out today anyway...

Just wanted to drop in that the new version of Jalapeno will be able to burn CDs ripped as CUE + FLAC on the fly once the bounty is completed.

Ok, bounty threshold level is already exceeded, mainly (but not only) thanks to generous donation from Fraggle. Then, I'm starting the work. I will notify about the progress here, as with the previous bounty.

I'm also dropping here because I also use very much flac for my music collection and seems to me that standard mos music player doesn't have flac support. Maybe I'm wrong and maybe this will be sorted thanx to Fraggie generous donation...
Good luck for the bount Krashan! :-)

The fact that I`m fortunate enough to be able to help with money for now, does not diominish one iota the contributions of others.

In fact, the contributions of others are far more significant than mine - sooner or later my MOS fund will be gone, then the support of the rest of the community will be even more apparent than they have been up to now.

This is great! The recent progress with Reggae (especially since MorphOS 3.0) is very impressive and it surely is about to make "Datatypes" obsolete for real (or something for legacy compatibility only). Reggae is so much more!

    Great progress Krashan! :-)

So for those of us who aren't smart, what is the significance of Reggae?

Personally, I'd love to have the option of using FLAC as mp3s always sound distorted.

Sooo, the first results, flac.demuxer in the work:

And Zormanita recognizing the file and its basic properties.

Don't hold your breath yet. It is only demultiplexer for file recognition and parsing headers. Decoder is for now only a skeleton, but it will change soon.

The first Reggae class of four needed for this bounty is flac.demuxer. It is an easy one, as it only recognizes the format and parses FLAC headers. It is more or less finished for now (I will add more metadata support to it in the third bounty stage). For now it parses the main FLAC header, the StreamInfo and also (added yesterday) SeekTable. The later one helps in fast audio seeking, as the name implies. If found (it is optional according to the standard), will be used by Reggae. Now the real fun begins, its name is flac.decoder ;-).
