This is totally OT where I posted it, so it's here for everyone to see:

I was chatting to CISC about problems with Aladdin 4D...we went through and replicated it. About 24hrs later, they had a bugfix for one of the support fns for Trance. (Before you ask, no it's not released )

Many Thanks to CISC and Piru for tracking this down....it should have a knock on effect improving Trance for other 68k programs so I'm told.

If you have bug reports...people are listening and working.

programmers - like artists - are people that do what they do because they like and enjoy it.

but bugfixing without releasing those fixes.
is like, hm, training without participating in a big race.
so mos-coders, come on. get out those fixes in a new bundle.

Nice, but I agree with above. Why do a fix if it not released? Lets get it out and let the rest of us have some fun!

Well, I've been an advocate of a much wider beta-testing circle for MorphOS for a long time. Even with the best beta testing and release preparation there's always that x.y.1 or .2 or .3 release that creeps up right on the heels of a major or minor point release...but we must face the fact that this isn't going to happen.

One of the biggest issues raised by laire seemed to be no one to champion (project manage) a full release without him.....ongoing development frequently <> release candidate...in fact large development teams even work on a seperate tree once the feature set/development level goes beyond a certain point.

Also, the last thing we need is rabid users bitching that stuff doesn't work when it's released....although see above (and the current TP prefs example spring to mind.)

(Some of) MorphOS development is contributed by a loose collaboration of developers...I can imagine how hard it can be to make these guys stop working and focus on a release candidate.

I can say all this with a straight face but *you know* how desperate I am for newer MOS components too.....

I want to boot my Voodoo out and go Radeon 3D
I *need* Ambient updates
I want to to altivec full metal jacket on dnetc
I'd love native, integrated TCP/IP so I can finally stop relying on MiamiDX

...and those are just a few of the new thangs!

I am serious, I would pay for new MorphOS features.

I tried to do a bountie site. When it was about complete and I asked
for help with the paypal accounts and other things I didnt get a
single person to come forward and agree with it. The site is lost now
and I would have to start all over again.

What happened? Why is the site lost?

Paypal doesn't work in all countries. (for example Czech Republic).

Let's see if is true, amiga/MorphOS users readed a lot of promises, but I try to hope that MorphOS developers are trying to do the dream a reality

What I want?

- Better hardware support (parallel, USB, Firewire, wireless ethernet, better support of graphics cards & 3D...).

- Updated Ambient! Like the GPL thingie but running correctly.

- Ready to use and updated subsystems ( Native TCP/IP with modern features as advanced firewall as PF but nice GUI, Better AHI, OpenGL support, 3D support of most of modern cards, MOS media built-in and supporting more things...).

- A future for MorphOS and evolutioning into a better thing with less limitations ( the dreamed own native box with memory protection, resource allocator, resource tracking and a lot of very cool stuff that isn't present in the AmigaOS API...).

- A really new and good browser supporting the latest stuff, but not a bloated piece of sw (like ibrowse but supporting more stuff and better...).

Having all this can made to MorphOS users a lot better, but mostly of this will can't be possible with a dead OS...

MorphOS developers has time after time assured that the development
hasn't stopped, and there are many signs (and even proof, like the
updated printing) of that if you look careful.

I have no idea but I don't think a new major OS version upgrade is
around the corner. However, I think it may be possible that we will
see certain small updates or additions of certain OS components in the
meantime, at least I hope we will (including a new desktop). You are
not alone to have a wish list of new features, and I don't think the
MorphOS developers are clueless in what's wanted and/or needed either.
I think they know! It will get here when it gets here! In the
meantime, enjoy what you have!

Ambient just got an update to 1.41... see http://zapek.com/software/ambient/ 'cauz of the donations... so go on... send more money = new update of Ambient...

I have just compiled Ambient 1.41 and I am using new Ambient (9.2.2005) on MorphOS 1.4.2.

New effects, list view is back, faster loading icons, correct sort and more more more. It's amazing!

See, until now you had the typical Amiga camp divided into two sides: AmigaOS and MorphOS. But now, inside MorphOS, one could devise a new division, in the desktop used (Ambient vs. Scalos). While freedom of choice can only be good, unification also is, and Ambient feels more "belonging" to MorphOS. Not to mention the shame of wasting so many months of work from David Gerber.
What's next? Competition between these two? Perhaps it pushes progress out from both, but I think that, with our lack of human resources, concentrating in Ambient would be a wiser choice.

Well, I had a go and it did not work and since I am not a programmer, I was shooting in the dark anyway, below is my output.
