Joining the crowd with a Mac Mini

    Hello everyone,

I am an active Amiga user since 1990. I found this Mac Mini G4 with 1.5GB RAM and didn't want to miss the chance to try out MorphOS.

I am impressed by the things I read and watched about MorphOS, but I can't be sure how it's performance will be on my Mac Mini. For example, I'd like to play games with emulators for PS1 and NeoGeo. Do you think it will perform well?

    Thanks.

Welcome to MorphOS .... ENJOY 8-)

I think you mean 1.5GHz rather than 1.5GB RAM as the Mac Mini is only capable of having 1GB of PC3200 184-pin RAM fitted in the single slot. ;-)

If so, you've got a comparatively rare Mac Mini with the 64MB VRAM 'silent upgrade', which is what I'm using as well, every day for most of my home computing, but my needs are less demanding than some users day-to-day requirements.

I'm not much of a gamer using emulators, but I'm sure someone will 'pop-their-head-round-the-door' and welcome you with more knowledge as to gaming joy. I've not used a PS1 - Free PS Emulator or GnGeo - NeoGeo emulator with MorphOS, but I'm sure many others have, so I can't personally offer you any background information to that subject - just a warm welcome. :-D

Just like newsense, I can't help or advise you about playing games and emulators on your MacMini G4 running MorphOS, but I would also like to welcome you to this forum site, and to using MorphOS. If you have the 1.5GHz model as newsense surmises, then it is one of the best machines to run MorphOS on almost silently, and very efficiently. IMHO, it is the best machine for new MorphOS users.

Take advantage of all the help found in the Library here on MorphZone, and I'm sure some other users will answer your questions soon.

Welcome to MorphOS, I can tell you that I use the DosBox I played to Day Of Tentacle II, Heart of China, SWOS, also the Hu Go the Turbograxf console emulator with some fight games as Strip Fighter II, and with ACE the Amstrad Emulator, I tryed the Mame but it is complicated for the problems with the roms, the PlayStation and NeoGeo I haven't test or play with some game.
I played with my MacMini without problems, you have could find a MacMini with 1GHz and if it has airport you can connect to Internet with WIFI too.
Amiga 500 with ROMs 1.3-2.05 and M-Tec AT 500 with hard disk and 4MB Ram.

    MacMini 1.5 GHz + MorphOS 3.12

Neither is correct with Mac mini G4. CPU clock range (stock) is 1.25...1.5 GHz, and RAM range is 0.25...1.0 GiB.

    Thanks everyone.
It is 1GB, my mistake. :) The guy I bought it is into this kind of stuff so he did the RAM upgrade, but I'm not sure if he tried any overclocking.
I will not have the device until next week, but as soon as I have my hands on this little box, I'll let you know more about it and my journey with MorphOS. :)

You can check the VRAM with MorphOS/Utilities/GraphicBoards.
