I really don't know the situation, but both companies pointing a finger doesn't help. If it is like you said, they should have told him tough luck not pass the buck and point the finger at a partner.

Just thinking this through, if he registered it with Hype wouldn't they be able to pull it up and send it to the email in the registration? If he didn't register and bought a physical copy, he may have screwed the pooch.

I can understand Amigakit referring it to Hyperion but Hyperion should have either tried to work something out or said tough titty.

All serials are displayed on the product registration page of your account there so I assume he didn't register.

    I can agree with that.

Thats why I would "acquire" anything Amiga OS related if I needed it without any remorse whatsoever. I'm just glad I'm not in the other camp. On the MorphOS side we dont have to deal with that drama, just get the popcorn out and laugh.

Its pretty pathetic though that after all of these years, these fools fight over something so old and irrelevant. Do other old, dead systems have the same issues? Ie. Apple, Atari etc? I know the C64 scene is doing well.

It's also pathetic that after 30 years+ kickstart 1.3 isn't avaiable for free to everyone and that they are still trying to sell floppies... 68k kickstart should be available for free for non commercial use. Releasing old 1.x sources would be a great way to preserve the OS too.
Nothing hurts a project more than developers not taking the time to let their community know what is going on.

Andreas, you never cease to amaze me. Somehow, I dont know how, you get all of this info. You are a walking encyclopedia.

Thanks for the reading material, I'll check it out. RISC OS 4 actually looks cool.

This RISC OS stuff makes me actually think why didnt MorphOS get released for the Raspberry or similar devices. Are they too underpowered for it? (off topic.. I know)

I guess it would have if the Raspberry Pi was Power Architecture instead of ARM ;-)

Actually MorphOS did get released for such device.

This "or similar" device is called Efika, but the PPC model is no longer manufactured.

AFAIK it's still fully supported, but imho, better get cheaper & more powerful PPC mac.

Why? And why are there so many Amiga users who feel like they are entitled to free code, just because it is old, or free updates to code that is old, or other free stuff, or that the OS should be Open Source? I personally would like to see AmigaOS1.0 to 3.1 as Open Source, so the remaining 68k community could have a go at improving it further, but I completely understand why the owner(s) of any IP want to continue to sell what they own and paid money to obtain, specially, if they haven't even recovered the purchase price they paid to obtain it yet (such as might be the case with Colanto).

I don't believe Hyperion owns anything, other than the right to use AmigaOS1.0 to 3.1, and MAYBE the right to sell copies of it (but I sort of doubt this, and think that Hyperion is selling 1.0 to 3.1 illegally).

If there is still value in using AmigaOS1.3 and 3.1 (which I think there still is), then why shouldn't Colanto continue selling it? If sold at a reasonable price, I don't mind paying for it at all, even though I could probably easily create my own back up copies. It is nice to be able to purchase new floppy disks of AmigaOS1.3 and 3.1, or 3.x, with the small improvements Colanto has paid some programmers to update 3.1 with.

AInc not pay, so in exchange Hyperion get rights to Amiga Os.
AInc may use and sell Amiga os as long as gui is not presented, and for games only.
Cloanto may sell and use Amiga Os only for emulation.
Anybody who buy any rights from AInc must respect Hyperion rigths to Amiga Os.
    See AInc Hyperion agreement.

No, you are, frequently, in multiple ways.
AInc. no longer retains development or distribution rights for Amiga OS.

AInc. has rights to sell Amiga Os as long as gui is not presented to end user.
    Read carefully AInc Hyperion agreement.

Uh, Uh. The agreement stipulates that Amiga Inc may distribute object code for the OS "solely in conjunction with gaming content or in conjunction with self-contained hardware devices containing such gaming content...".

BTW - You need to do your own research, not expect me to do it for you.

The agreement can be found here.

In the last days of C= they outsourced distribution of the 3.1 upgrade to VillageTronic (Picasso2/4,Ariadne,etc).

During the ESCOM days "some clueless German Judge" (tm) couldn't find any evidence that 3.1 had been part of the deal transfering C= to ESCOM.

Or in other word, anybody who claims to know for sure who owns 3.1 is lying.
