Does anyone know if there is a way to add Asian locale support to MorphOS?

Would be handy for web surfing and helping some sites in asian script render properly

Languages that fit to 8-bit codesets can be supported.
    1 + 1 = 3 with very large values of 1

Do I need to change the font settings to view websites with Chinese characters?

    Cheers

ASCII doesn't support Chinese characters, so I'm guessing not?

The two things are not related.

1.You can display any language within the web browser. Just have a look at the linked file for the explanations (basically you need to install and configure the appropriate font).

2.You cannot use anything else than 8-bits characters (btw 8-bit charset is not ASCII!) in the operating system (and applications) itself.

It means that you can browse Chinese websites, but that you could not use Chinese characters in a wordprocessor or a text editor for instance.

At least Multiview supports UTF-8 :-)

And so does Scribble. Anyhow, this is definitely an area where there is scope for progress...

Likewise! If MorphOS added support for Simplified Chinese, I would be more than happy to help with translation :-)
