Efika - 2+ IDE solution?

    Hi,
I'm still waiting for the forum admins of powerdeveloper.org to activate my account, so I thought I would seek advice here meanwhile.

From what I have read, the Efika would struggle with more than one IDE device directly connected.

Would a solution be to use a two port PCI riser card (instead of a one port -- so you can have both gfx card,) and to use an IDE PCI expansion card?

Alternatively; would using a SSD drive + slim-line optical drive + a cable 10cm or less, work? Since it would draw less power than a 2.5" hdd + regular optical drive.

If anyone can answer these questions, many thanks!

Cisc had made a comment about it in this thread :

    https://morph.zone/modules/newbb_plus/viewtopic.php?topic_id=5156&forum=9

and i definately agree with it.

this questions have been asked a million times, please check the existing thread or at powerdeveloper.org, this was discussed many times there too. (Neko gave some riser references that may work, but i haven't heard any feedback from users yet).

    Thank you for your reply.

I feel that CISC's responses do not accurately answer my questions. However, if no one can give an accurate response, but everyone pertains to the same reasoning, then I guess I will not be investing in Efika any time soon. ;-)

well, maybe you should ask it again on www.powerdeveloper.org , most Efika owners post there and maybe you can get some answer from people who tried different ways, successfuly or not.
    good luck !

What would you use the EFIKA for? Why do you need DVD?

Maybe the next Efika will have two SATA plugs on it. I've already seen SATA DVD drives, so I know they are out there. Seems like the two little connectors would even take up less space on the board, but maybe there's some other reason why they couldn't use it. Maybe it'd be more because they'd need a discreet SATA chip, or can/will the 5200 be able to do SATA at some point?

It seems like that'd be the ideal answer for the next Efika version.

In many parts of the world, an Efika with SATA for a DVD drive, and 256megs RAM would make a very potent home computer.
