I am not sure how USB Pads work in Morphos, because for the Moment i am bound to my Gameport based one (Should change next week) But i am right and you have to bind actions to keys, you have of course to configure them in Mame itself. To do so, just press the Tab Button while the game is running, and there you can configure the keys as you need.
Hope this helps, if not just forget it ;-)

My usb joypad doesn't work well with mame.
It is recognized by poseidon but in mame ( with option JOYPAD ) the buttons work perfectly but the directional cross give strange signal (right is left for example). It is unemployable.

Perhaps it doesn't work correctly because is a microsoft's joypad... :-)

I use with mame a normal joypad linked to pegasos's gameport. It work fine.

That should be easy one to fix... Start MAME, when game is running hit "TAB" to get to the menu.

Then select change controls (for this game or every game)
Then locate "Player 1 left" (or however it's written in prefs) and press enter on it, then press joypad direction you want to use to move left. Repeat for other directions.

    easy, eh? :-)

Of course you can do the same with buttons aswell...
