Best bet for you is to go to linux.pegasosppc.com and research info there. There is also a bootloader where you can do a linux net install..

I've been putting some extra info about Linux installation and configuration on my PegasosComputer Wiki

Mostly has info about Debian, and answers to some common q's I have come across (how to get sound working, mol, etc).

I just started trying out Gentoo as well. Successfully installed that and am fooling around with the build system.

ultraspec that you did is really cool!
It is great when you test something new with your computer to make some documentation after, the most people forget to do that last part.

I will say it one more time...A good documentation save others time!!!

I dont want to step in the same problems like the last hundred users did.

I don't say that the Pegasos Linux Community is bad, but it has to stay up to date.

And I don't want to be defending anyone, but could you tell me what should I document about working system? I do understand troubleshooting, and this is done on PLC. But after the problem is found (and usually fixed or remedied in some other way) it is documented in the forum and then... What else to write? It's just Linux after all ;-)

Well ..I think the whole solution should be published in the first page of the PLC ?
    Two Instruction Documents?
One for PegasosI(already exists) and second one for PegasosII ???

    ..do I ask much?

Well... I don't know if it's too much. But my answer is - if you want to install Gentoo (as I did) read installation manual (there is link from PLC to David's page where you can find everything that you need) and follow it. It should work without any problems if you have "standard" hardware setup. If not - then how can anyone know what problems might have been occured to you? You just have to ask.

The only thing I think is missing (from my, Gentoo-centric, point of wiew) is some FAQ with most comon problems explanations - all (or most) of them explained in PLC forum.

And if you really want to install any other distribution then you'll have to ask someone who use it - in this case you may be right and there may not be enough documentation.

Thank you for the positive comments :)

The Gentoo installation docs were pretty good. I got the base system installed and running without any problems... still working on a few things. Installing on Pegasos hardware is not much different from other systems, you just need some patience :) and make sure the boot images (and any custom kernels you may build) will work on Pegasos.

Keep a known working boot image on your boot partition so you can always get the machine booted in case of a mistake.

    I tried..
    Debian
    Gentoo
    Mandrake

    Results: No success

The image installer is trying to install linux through the cd instead the internet...
Gentoo does not recognise my Videocard (Radeon 8500) and so on.
..thats my first touch with LinuxPPC world.
I'm using in my i386 systems, Red Hat 7 & Mandrake 9.2 (for the people who think that I'm totally n00b).

liquidbit : You seem to have strange problems. And it sound even stranger to me when you say you have at least some experience with Linux (well - maybe the distribution choice is not the best, but it's Linux after all ;-)).

I can't help you with the other distros, but could you please tell me what is the effect of your videocard not beeing recognized by Gentoo? In which stage - is it during boot or maybe later in X? If it's during boot process please give the exact commandline you enter at the OF prompt to boot the Gentoo install kernel. If your card is standard AGP Radeon, then there should be absolutely no problems with it. It just have to work.
