A reread of Fab's explanation below

"If you want to use the GUI to record, just select the fullpath you want to record to in that "dump stream" string. Then, in pulldown menu->control, check "Record Stream", and then play your stream normally. You can even enable/disable record at runtime to skip unwanted parts, as long as you started recording before playing the stream.

From command line, you could do it too (with dumpstream & co), but you couldn't watch it at the same time."

My error in not being able to record was i failed to check the record before the play

OSCO: do you really have to open a new topic for any single question? You can ask your questions in Mplayer thread and I'm sure you will get your answer. Don't get me wrong but it looks bit messy, with opening 1 thread to get 2-3 replies...
