Turkish Keymap for MOS 2.4
  • Visitor
  • Hello

I noticed that MOS 2.4 has no Turkish keymap.
How can I create a Turkish keymap for MOS2.4 so I am able to type Turkish characters in ISO-8859-9 charset ?

    Thank you...

See keymaps.lha which contains the MorphOS keymaps. You can use these as a reference to build your own. Just don't ask me what the fields mean :) MorphOS uses adapted / fixed AROS keymaps.

  • Thanks for the file jacadcaps...

I am trying to find a reference for creating Turkish keymap but I couldn't find any.. AROS also lacks turkish support..

I tried converting an old PC105 68K turkish keymap with Wishmaster's keymap editor but it doesn't allow me to change the ISO standard to ISO-8859-9, so some Turkish characters aren't displayed..

Can anyone help about this ?

    Thank you

You just have to modify some other keymap. Informations needed are:
    - codepage with unicode mapping (if Turkey uses ISO-8859-9, these data can be fetched from unicode.org).
    - keyboard mapping (which key combination generates which character). Too bad I have no idea about Turkish keyboard mapping.
Having these data you can modify any keymap and compile the Turkish one.

    Hello Polluks

I have tried this keymap, it is the correct keymap however it doesn't select ISO-8859-9 charset when you activate the keymap.
Is there a way to use the ISO-8859-9 charset when you select this keymap. ?

In the MOS keymap prefs no ISO standard appears beside Tr keymap..

I can help you with the keymap if you tell me the mapping (which key combination produces which character) and help with testing.

    Dear Krashan

Thank you for your kind reply.

For Turkish keyboard layout please check the following website.
This is a standart Turkish keyboard.

    http://www.katpatuka.org/pub/doc/keyboard/trq.html

Turkish uses ISO-8859-9 standard for characters..

OK, so I have all the informations needed. I have one question related to the keyboard image. There are 3 characters on some keys. I assume lower character is obtained by just pressing the key. Higher left character seems to be SHIFT+key. What is higher right character? ALT+key? If yes, one specific ALT or any of them?

    Krashan,

These characters are typed with by holding down Alt Gr (the alt key on the right side of space bar)

    Thank you :)

Little question: Wasn't "Alt Gr" actually "Control" and "Alt"? I think I remember that, with the first AT keyboards (older ones didn't have "Alt Gr")...

Upper left is accessed with Shift, lower right is accessed by Alt and upper right is accessed with Shift+Alt (ie; Alt activates the alternative char, while Shift activates the upper char, thus Shift+Alt activates the upper alternative character).
