Does anyone remember that wbstartup app that divided your wbstartupdrawer in 2 drawers. One with things that you wanted to start and the second one with things you didn't want to start?

Was that WBstartup+ , would it work on MorphOS or is there a MorphOS alternative ?

just in time - I am currently working on such an application. It offers WBStartup management and much more, but is still in development. Current version may contain bugs etc.

If you want to use it, please read the readme-file inside the archive carefully before installing it! :D

StartupPrefs works with MorphOS 2.x and is confirmed to work with MorphOS 1.4x (Update Pack 1).

What about if you make a drawer in "WBStartup", call it "Disabled", and move things you don't want into it?
Further question: Is there ony way of controlling the order of execution? Is the execution sorted by the programs name? I guess so. Then, carefully renaming the programs (for example, preceding their names with numbers), a required order could be established.

thanks Shwan... i tried three WBstartup+'s from Aminet ... two of them nag about the fact that i do not have OS3.5 and the oldest ... MorphOs told me something like " can't lock wbstartup "

What I also liked about the program is that it actually told you what it was starting when executing during startup. If you download the oldest wbstartup+ from aminet, I believe the sources are in there. Maybe you can use it for ideas or I don't know what.

But where is that file attached ?

I remember WBStartup+ and I liked it, but I cannot use their sources, cause reading someone elses sources confuses me lol Besides...I have written StartupPrefs in C++ instead of C anyway ;) But I am of course taking feature requests and they'll make their way into one of the next builds as long as I am able to do it. I've been away from AmigaOS programming for a loooooong time and even though MorphOS' API is pretty much the same, I am still trying to get back in lol.

It is attached at the end of my first post (StartupPrefs.lha). If you still can't find it, just drop me a pm with your email address, so I can send you the archive :)

The installation script requires the installer by Guido Mersmann btw. - download URL can be found in the readme-file. That installer might hang on MOS 1.4x or cause compatibility issues with some installer scripts. But don't worry - you can easily uninstall the installer if necessary by just launching it with no args and reinstalling your old installer then ;)

Normaly files are started by file system order. First found file will be launched first, but there is a tooltype to set the startup priority called "STARTPRI" just to "STARTPRI=100" and the tool will be launched first.

The executable is being installed to SYS:Prefs/
It's not being started automatically. It's just a preferences tool, that copies files between SYS:WBStartup/ and SYS:WBStartup/Disabled/ (drawer Disabled is being created during the installation). To change the Startup-Sequence, it works as follows:

Example

You check "Keep BootShell" and hit "Apply changes".
At this point the application searches Startup-Sequence for any occurrence of "EndCLI >NIL:" and simply comments it like this: ";EndCLI >NIL:". The same vice-versa if you uncheck "Keep BootShell". But before changin the Startup-Sequence, StartupPrefs copies your current one to Startup-Sequence.bak for obvious reasons ;)

So there is no need to start the executable unless you want to change something.

Not entirely what I had in mind, but it does the trick.

Files attached to posts are only visible to the poster until a moderator approves the attachment.
