I just ordered my case yesterday for my EFIKA, had not messed with my EFIKA much otherwise since I got it a while back. I am hearing mention of a MorphOS 2.0 instead of 1.5, just concerns me this is going to push back when EFIKA will be supported.

Can anyone give some insight here?

    Thanks!

    Velcro:

Better forget about direct conection of an optical drive to the IDE por of the Efika (it is toom uch hassle and will be always suboptimal).
Do it by usb (very slow) or by network.

I believe that EFIKA support is still planned for the next MorphOS release, does it really matter to you which version number is attached to that particular release? :)

    1) free up USB port by using the serial port for a serial mouse (four serial mouse drivers on Aminet, hopefully at least one works here)

Err... just get a mouse/kb wireless combo, they use one usb port. Or even better: get an usb hub. Don't count on serial mice support in MorphOS.

I use an USB hub. Keyboard, mose, cdrw, gamepad, and an extra usbharddrive. Everything works perfectly under Linux.

I think you can have a hard time attempting to find such an old device. Some PS/2 mice also work in serial port (that's how I had a Logitech trackball in my Amiga 3000, via IOBlix card).
But... what will happen if MorphOS sends debug output to the serial port? You would be forced to use "ramdebug" option (everybody does it, anyway). Also, SmartFirmware might expect a free serial port, as it also has a debug console over it.
Bad idea, not soldering PS/2 ports... Perhaps they would use the I2C interface of the CPU, and bPlan preferred to keep it free.

The best news for MorphOS on the EFIKA

Indeed good news, even better when new hardware comes to life. This new SoC specifications look good, having some kind of general purpose hardware acceleration (the separate AXE 200 Mhz core), and even the "promised" graphics engine: PowerVR MBX lite looks old but good, check some demo videos. The main core speed of 400 Mhz is not exactly frightening, but MorphOS should make good use of it. Count in those ethernet, USB and SATA interfaces. MMU and FPU are, of course, very welcome.

Regarding your previous blog post about MorphOS 2.0, it also sounds good, because it really seems you are in close contact with the MorphOS team: You are exposing some technical features that regular people didn't know (me neither, of course).

Please have in mind that ninety nine DOLLARS (not euros!) is really something spectacular, and everybody is going to bug you about that price tag starting date.
freescale has anounced the CPU, the evaluation board seems to exist (tagged at 2000 dollars). When will we be able to buy this new MPC512X powered Efika? When will SmartFirmware boot on it? When will MorphOS 2.0 start on it? When will you (you?) find a customer for this solution, in order to sell them thousands of systems, so you can start building the Pegasos III?

Edit: The Efika is indeed is on sale at 99 dollars. RELEASE MORPHOS NOW!

I'll wait to see MorphOS on Efika to be released first before buying one.

    The OF-Update isn't available either...

To have a small box that runs linux, Efika isn't the only choice...

.. but I MorphOS runs on it, everything changes
