    Hello,

i just found a Installer backported from AROS to MOS. As i no longer use MOS i can not say if it works, but maybe someone is interested in trying it out.

If I remember correctly, one of the ideas of MorphOS is not having any kind of installer, and install manually. It's much more educating. Then we have the impressive MorphUP, which is no less than an internet based installer. Talk about freedom of choice.
By the way, I wanted to try out Geit's nice looking "MMKeyboard" (a program to get all those extra multimedia keys used), but the install procedure does not work: When clicking one of the install icons, my installer executable (the one freely available on Aminet) complains that the icon doesn't have the "SCRIPT" tooltype. Upon adding it, it still complains. Any idea? What if I create a new icon? I suspect that the extended image code in the icon tooltypes is confusing Ambient. Could that be?

Wish everyone would just use MorphUp and forget all this installation-crap :-)

Krashan's? MorphUp is by natMeg. However, Krashan was one of the early adopters with his Reggae packages.

(Gah, you edited the name away, now what i said doesn't make sense any more... :-) )

I checked it out and it is no use. It doesnt support all commands and GUI layout requires little bit of work.

I really like MorpUp too. One thing we need here on MorphZone is a list of all the availible install sources.

I know there is not that many - yet - but maby one "Mother of all MorphUP list's" will encourage more to use the program.

Just a thougt :-) have a nice weekend.

Great idea, like having no texteditor.

Which seems only a handful people using it. Its nice but there is much more to do to make it useable.

No, it's only a: We are to lazy to write one and there is one available at aminet, thingie. Not all people, especially newbies or people who have to set up a whole system the first time want to spend the next months doing so.

Let's suggest a not so ideal world where not all programs, especially old 68k ones are usable with MorphUP... By the way, when the idea of MorphOS is: Doing all by hand why, making the effort with MorphUP?

So you do not want to be educated by installing by hand... ;-)
I don't know, i had several problems with the "aminet" Installer and switched to the one from OS 3.9...

    Bye

How about sending a bug report? ;-) As i can not test it: Is it inferiror to the Commodore "aminet" Installer, or to the OS3.9 version, or both?

To all installers. I played around with demo script and got these errors:

    Quote:

    Unimplemented command <copyfiles>
    Unimplemented command <copylib>

And possibly some little issues too since code seems to use strncpy().

I dont think bounty for text editor makes much sense. There are good and free text editors available (like Blacks Editor) and there is text editor in MorphOS 1.5 and also using MUI4 classes it is relatively easy to create one. Bounty to open source Blacks Editor could be nice though.

Free and old, I seriously hope that nobody is using it anymore, it's from the stone age (it was followed by about thirty versions of GoldED AIX, then Cubic IDE).

Sadly, I've lost the location of MorphED as well. I agree that it is rather old, considering the number of updates that are in that editor's family; however, it's difficult to argue with free ;-)

Anyway, by now we should really get on the ball for some very basic notepad alike editor. Load a file, edit a file, save the file, maybe a find feature, and not much else. Something that'll happily sit next to Calculator in MorphOS:Utilities/

--Scratch that about the editor, since apparantly there will be one in 1.5 :-P

I've just found out that a certain "Notepad" program existed in AmigaOS 1.2 and 1.3. If only I could read those diskettes...
Hey! I've realized that I've never searched for "notepad" in Aminet. There I found this little "Micronote" program. It dates back to ten years ago, but claims to use MUI and something called "textfield.gadget" (which sounds to me more like ClassACT?).
    May it work?

IIRC textfield.gadget is part of ClassAct but nothing prevents using ClassAct/Reaction classes in MUI program.

Yes, but it still kicks ass of many other text editors :-)

Obviously newer ones are even better. Personally I didn't buy Cubic IDE becouse I thought MorphED was somehow "bad" but exactly the opposite - it's so good that it deserves some additional support ;-)

pEditor is a free, simple text editor, that uses MUI.
