    Ave!

Sometimes MPlayer just can't open overlay and falls back to vmem diplay (it's windows cannot be resized, and the playback is much slower). The promlem appears when some programs are broken or when the computer has very long uptime, but I'm really interested in, what it causes. Other programs don't use the overlay. The only solution I've found is to restart the computer. I have a Radeon9200SE (128MB RAM), MOS 1.4.5 and MPlayer 1.0pre4 (olver versions also did this). Does anybody know what's wrong?

This is not a Mplayer Bug, but a bug with the CGX Drivers introduced with Mos 1.4.5
In fact no prog which uses overlay (snes for example) does work then.
I was not able to reproduce that, it just "suddenly" happen, like you when
having long uptimes, if I use AE for a while I can be pretty sure that overlay
does not longer work and so on.

If overlay is used once it stays for ever (atleast that's happening on my peg) so i made a 0.1s movie with mencoder, simple wbstartup script and it lanuches mplayer with that movie on start-up. Since then i have no problems with overlay anymore.

    Hi,

MPlayer for MorphOS 1.0pre7-2.95.3 is the actual version.
Overlay, i use it with VICE, the Commodore64 emulator from http://www.amidog.com
There, you can find also AMP2, which is a movie and DVD player also ported to MorphOS.
For correct working of AMP2, you need a keyfile, purchase from amidog.

the latest version of Mplayer is actually 1.0pre8.

mplayer now actually supports playing of WMV3 movies

with regard to the loss of overlay, there are a couple
    of things
    1) increase the stack of the monitor file (after I increased it
substantialy this 'error/bug' has not occured for me again (knock on wood).
    2) IF you then get this fault
run loadmondrvs, then you will recover your overlay
    abilities :-)

Hm... I wanted to write pre7, don't know why I wrote pre4 instead of it ;) But is pre8 already ported to MOS? Where can I find it?

Thanks for your advice, I'll try them when the problem occours again.

EDIT: It came in short time: The loadmondrvs command solved the problem. Thanks again!

It's here for quite a while already (and BTW, WMV3 support is still somewhat buggy)...

Nice! I tried some wmv3 videos and they play without problems. :-)
I want to report something that i notice in this and in the previous version too. When i try to play a file in VMEM mode, it plays ok and much faster than wpa of course, but the whole video gets a bluish tint. Also when i choose to display the video in fullscreen while i use the VMEM mode (f key), the system freezes. Perhaps it's a problem with the permedia2 chip/driver or just a fault of my configuration.

    @CISC

    Thanks a lot!

I think we really need a central homepage where everyone can download tha latest mplayer versions, because I think the releases are very chaotic, every release is by different people and is in different places. And of course there is sadly no news when one new version comes out. :(
