    @itix

    I have every confidence that Ambient will get better (sounds like it already is) -- but why are you so married to the "auto-sorting" feature? Why not just have the ability to turn it off?

    @klesterjr

    Non-autolayout code in current Ambient is even less satisfying...

    I don't like how Ambient wants to scale larger icons
    to a quite small size even when scaling is set to
    micro/huge. I would like the "ignore" scaling option
    to return so that larger icons do not get scaled into
    tiny images. Seeing the icons as they were created is
    quite refreshing when starting Scalos.

    Scalos feels almost exactly like the classic Amiga
    Workbench with some upgrades. Somehow Ambient still
    feels smoother to me even lacking some features
    though. :)

    I think that one thing that differentiate AmigaOS and MorphOS from Windows is that we can really customize the environment.
    Having a chice of desktop is a nice option.
    I use ambient for desktop and Dopus for file management.
    Some people have been used to do the file management with the workbench and set it up on MorphOS. Now I think that Scalos offers more than a the workbench.

    BTW: Anyone knows what is going on with Nemesis ?

    It's being worked on, but currently work is going rather slow.

    Ok. I think I've seen comments about this before..
    I mean Scalos maybe becoming the official WB shell for MOS.

    What is actually missing from Ambient before it can become a useful WB replacement?

    Well the "waste" have reasons.. You guys (MOS users) know very well why.. Hyperion don't want the same thing to happen to OS4 that happened with Gerber and Genesi. That's why those important stuff is done by Hyperion themselves or "really inside" guys..

    Is it really possible to get Ambient running on OS4? I thought it was VERY tight with MUI4 and MOS?!?

    Good news for you:
    I have identified and solved the problem that caused dnetc to start up in command line mode.
    The fix will be included in the next Scalos release!

    Oh, but I actually think Gerber was a "really inside" guy ...
    MorphOS is Amiga done right! :-)
    MorphOS NG will be AROS done right! :-)

    I finally got a chance to install the latest version of Scalos on MorphOS. Haven't played with it for very long, but everything SEEMS okay.

    I saw that someone was having problems wiith a corrupted display -- which doesn't seem to be a problem here. Is anyone having any "other" problems that I should be aware of?

    I pretty thoroughly tested it on WinUAE and was happy with the results (minor issues) and I'd like to do the same on MorphOS.

    BTW -- re-reading this thread, I was too harsh on Ambient (bad mood, I guess) -- very sorry about that.
