does somebody have a solution for the boot problem?
I installed 1.4.5 from scratch and MOS stops booting on the butterfly logo. :-(

I also experience the same problem.
    1.4.4 worked fine.
I've tried with a new HD as well, but with the same result.
I think it could be a Firmware issue since it is possible to boot from cd and still see your partitions?

    Serge:

    Checked usb already?

Just to get informed where it's hanging perform a debug analysis (null modem cable or ram debug). It's a bit of a work, but then you know what's happening.

I had absolutely no problem to install the update to my Peg1 April1.

I will do a nullmodem dump tonight. Maybe a cannot find out what is happening, but support.morphos-team.net could use, I think!

But did you upgrade or did you a clean install?

    Hi all,

I have the same problem with freezing on boot logo... so I switched back to 1.4.4 boot.img and everything seams to work fine with the new 1.4.5 installed software...

Please give us a solution! Thanks.

    Bye, MarK.

Have you tried to use the new boot.img as well after upgrade? It strok me that the issue might not be in the boot.img, but instead in something in the MOSYS:S/Startup-sequence?

    Best regards

    Thanks, great work!

There are however a few problems:

I've got a problem with freezing on boot, even with a clean install. But from cd it just boots fine. I've removed the USB 2,0 PCI card I use and now it boots fine.

Another problem is that AmithlonTV freezes it's output when in a window. This happens when there is harddisk activity (but not all the time). If you resize the window or go fullscreen it works again.

    -Toto

the boot problem, could it be an boot argument problem?
I remembre I use the ramdebug argument on my boot env.
Cant try it without ramdebug cause I'm at office, but will try this evening.

I have a PCI USB 2 card. Will try to unplug it too.

    @ TimKack

I did an update - it went flawless.
Reboot from hd went okay. Just renamed the Arexx stuff then, copied the Muicon stuff back as well as some 10 MUI classes and the vapor toolkit library (all the latter files moved now to libs or sys:devs/classes/mui/ accordingly and not to mossys:libs or mossys:devs/classes/mui/ any more to avoid this copy back procedure for the next upgrade).

Since MorphOS 1.4.2 I'm using the ramdebug option because it worked better that way. I'm gone try without later today, see what happens.

I have the same problem, when booting from hard-drive it hangs at the boot picture. Except sometimes it doesn't, like if I set boot partition to automount or turn off automount. Then it seems to work right for a bit. But then it starts hanging. Very strange and erratic.

I guess I can switch back to boot.img from 1.4.4 too. That is not a thing I like doing though. I wonder what improvements I lose by doing this.

The new Ambient has a very annoying feature: it snapshots disk icons right after moving them. Do you have any ideas, how to unsnapsot or sort ("snap to grid") them?

    @Velcro_SP:

Well, I didn't reach any problem with the 1.4.4 boot.img. Strange is, that it boots from CD without anytroubles...

Another thing is, that my USB massstorage devices didn't appear on ambient with the 1.4.5 itself. So I reinstalled poseidon 2.2 and now it works flawlessly. I have to check it out when booting from the CD...

    Hoping to solve this soon...

    Bye, MarK.

I really do not know if this is in any way related to 1.4.5 (buit never had anything like this before): the system had frozen during the night, hd led was on and monitor was in suspended state and after a reboot my system partition (SFS) had vanished....

The only programs running in night time were dnetc client, MiamiDX, Matrix blanker, Clonck, April and PegasosMixer

And hurdreds of hours of work was lost with Finnish .cd and .catalog files... :(

    @Motosampy:

afaik, when i tried the matrix blanker, it worked nice, but my memory started slowly disappearing. that could be probably because of some hw hits or so, and something related could change in 1.4.5. I don't use the blanker anymore, because it seamed dangerous (as the memory was disappearing)... Perhaps that could be it...

    Try this: www.xs4all.nl/~hjohn/SFS/SFSsalv.lha

Maybe it helps for vanished partition problem.

    I found an workaround!!!
    Install MOS 1.4.5 from CD.
Boot on the 1.4.5 boot.img with ANY readable CD in the cddrive.
    Enjoy MOS 1.4.5 :-D

(I will send the output from debug to MOS-team)

I'm pretty sure that Poseidon is involved in the hangups during boot.
Booting with serial debugging enabled makes the problem disappear, so it is most likely a timing problem. Inserting a CD, as suggested by TimKack" causes a similar delay during Ambient start.
I solved the problem by inserting "wait 1" directly before "IPrefs" in the startup-sequence!
A (ramdebug) logfile was sent to Bigfoot two days ago...

If anybody else from the MOS-team is interested in debugging the problem, contact me.

Unfortunally did I all the tests with serial debugging enabled but that didn't help.
The interesting thing is that it hangs when the ide.device is accessing cd: Could it be a ide.device issue?

VIA ATAPI Driver: Unit 1 set PIO Mode 4
VIA ATAPI Driver: Unit 1 set DMA Mode 2

Anyway, MOS-team will proberbly solve it quite soon.

Putting "wait 1" before I Prefs in the startup-sequence file in Morphos directory seems to work perfectly for me, THANKS!
