Trackers on MOS?

    >Don't know whether this will be of interest to developers on this board or not but RBF software told me that anyone seriously interested in doing a MOS port of OctaMED should contact Ray, at this address:
    MED-MorphOS@medsoundstudio.com

Gerd Frank has already worked on SoundStudio for a long time, and if I remember correctly, the source has been pretty much fixed for GCC.
Incase someone actually wants to work on the MorphOS version (read: a version that works under MOS), just know that you would not be alone.

Uh oh... and now I tell my story:

At one time a few years ago I almost raised enough money to buy OctaMED source code with some investors. I believe it may have sold for a similar cost to what the Aladdin source is going for on ebay.. (see many bids for Aladdin?).

Myself and investors couldn't communicate very well with a certain'inc' . And there wasn't a big enough market to support buying OctaMED, developing it and reselling. At least Amiga market. For the windows and Mac markets the product (OctaMED) would require quite a lot of work, perhaps re-writing it from scratch.

Anyways, after that Gerd Frank appeared on the scene and was able to do much more than me. Its a shame we never talked, perhaps we could have worked out something beneficial for everyone.

If Gerd Frank is reading this, I would welcome an email. :-D

Except he's not really owrking on it, I don't think. He released an update (which apparently was only to fix some bugs) about six months ago which didn't work at all.
Since then, he posted to the MED yahoo.groups list that he was too busy to work on it right now and we *might* see some movement before Christmas.

    > Incase someone actually wants to work on the MorphOS version (read: a version that works under MOS), just know that you would not be alone.

Why not e-mail Gerd? Or join the MED list?

    He has the nick 'mainactor'.

Or I could post your mail to the list?

I think the code is now gcc, which is important.

But yes, you are correct, the progress has been very slow.

True but did you try using the update?

It appeared to work fine until you saved your work - then whoopsie, all gone. :-/

I tried it out on an existing track that I *thankfully* had a backup of.

Hopefully someone can give him a shout and offer to help. (My coding skills never got further than "hello world".)

    Hi folks,

OT but hopefully one of you guys will be able to help:

I tried out the programme 'Sample Manager' last night.
It appears to work well but seems to be restrcited to 32mb RAM on my Peg1. (I appear to have 80mb free)
I can't find anything in the docs except that 64mb RAM is reccommended.

Anyone else used this programme and encounter a similar problem?

    Thanks,
    Robert.

    -EDIT- I'll start a new thread. :-)

    Hi Robert,

Just go to the preferences (Menu: File->Prefs) and increase the value in the string gadget "memory used in MB".

(I was fiddling with prefs last night but must've missed it.)

Turns out I was using an older version of the programme, which has a bug, preventing change of the max. mem. size.

Should get the newer version installed tonight.

    Even more OT:
Is there a decent programme for recording sound input that anyone knows?
(I've been using PSA but there is no monitor.)

    Thanks again folks,
    Robert.

Okay, let's get back to the original subject of the thread: Trackers on MOS?

If you want to answer/help out Robert, please use the "Sample Manager" thread; he posted the same question there.

    :-)

    Yeah, sorry about the diversion.

So, has anyone e-mailed Gerd about helping port OSS yet?
(I think he is also on the MorLOUD yahoo group.)

Sorry to butt in, but has anybody tried out the desired Amiga trackers in UAE?

I never tried to get UAE to work on MOS, but maybe the Paula emu is good enough for what you folks want to have. If it is, you might be able to use the Amiga trackers / sequencers on your Peg ...

I'm not too sorry about this guy not continuing his port of that map program or whatever it was, I mean, how useful is that to the broad masses anyway? Some few might find it useful for some purpose I don't know, but I will certainly not cry over this one.

The MED is another story though. But AFAIK he has not been doing very much work on that anyway. Quoting Roberts post from 2004/8/31:

"Don't know whether this will be of interest to developers on this board or not but RBF software told me that anyone seriously interested in doing a MOS port of OctaMED should contact Ray, at this address:
    MED-MorphOS@medsoundstudio.com"

So now when he left the building, perhaps someone else would like to take over? Or even better, forming a team or something?

What was the address to that bounty site again ... ;-)
MorphOS is Amiga done right! :-)
MorphOS NG will be AROS done right! :-)

Anyone interested IN SS should have been on the SoundStudio-mailinglist and not ask stupid questions here.

There will be no SS for MOS, and that has been the case for a year already. Give it a rest.

All hail Q-Master, who brings us the first working Tracker on MorphOS! Muchos gracias to him for porting SchismTracker!

    Get SchismTracker here:
    http://www.amirus.org.ru/files/SchismTracker_0.18a.lzx

It's a Tracker in the tradition of the old ScreamTracker, but support many fileformats and has much more features. And it's still being actively developed.

i've been a tracker musician since 1992, I produced a few released eletro/drum'n'bass tracks using Renoise on both PC and Mac (amazing tracker, professional) so i rushed on this one, i always dreamed to get a proper tracker on MOS and well... hum... well i uess it's a tracker yeah...
why does MOS appz are so oldschool most of the time ? don't we deserve something better than ports of oldies ? *sighs*

    nice attempt anyway

    @Vovka

Why not co-operate with the authors of Protracker or SoundStudio rather than start a new one?
