I sold my PC notebook because I would like to have only one computer at home - Pegasos. But now I need run some PC aplications, and I cant find any PC emulator.

I can run only PC-task, but it is very old.

I downloaded WINS (PC emulator under Linux). But it is for x86 :o/ I am not Linux expert, I am not able to compile it to MOS. I would like to aks somebody, who can compile PC emulator WINS from Linux to MOS. Please.

OK, than you very much. I will test it. Have you some experiences with it?

What Intel processor Bochs emulates under G3/600?

I measured 80s to boot Windows 95 and IIRC about 25s to start Word 97 on Pegasos-I G3/600.

    WINS?? Did you mean WINE?
There is an x86 backend available for it called qemu (http://fabrice.bellard.free.fr/qemu/) but it isn't finished yet. I'm not sure how complete it is but I've talked to a (reliable) guy who was able to run simple windows apps with it on a powermac G4 at usable speed (meaning that it was slow but not too slow).

Your best bet might be to run VirtualPC from MacOS 9.x (it's much faster than osx) in MOL until qemu get's faster.
I would recommend running MOL in a framebuffer to reduce the overhead, especially if you are running on a G3.

When qemu get's more stable/faster, and the AGP device for Pegasos is finished, it would be very interesting to drop it into WineX =).

I just noticed that qemu 0.50 has been released, maybe it works better with wine now.

Thanks for the post. How usable is Word97 in the umulation? I mean can you type out a document? Is loading fast? Is there a Guide to installing Bochs in MOS? I'm sure with the G4 Peg2 and DDR ram Bochs will speed up dramatically...

Of course if your run Linux on your Peg with Mac ON Linux (like me :-o ) you can run Virtual PC or something like that in MacOS afaik..

The last time I checked bochs it was very poorly optimized, especially on PPC as I believe the devs are all on x86.
Sadly the MOS version is using bochs 2.0.2 which is quite old, a LOT has happened in the CVS since it was released and it would be beneficial to compile snapshots of it instead. It's still not very optimized though, not at all like VirtualPC. (I noticed there is a 2.1 prerelase available on sf now)
Someone with ppc arch knowledge should join that project as it might become valuable even to MacOS now that microsoft bought VirtualPC. Perhaps Apple will realise that too and push some money in that direction =D (wishful thinking, but you never know, they seem to have realised there is a lot to gain from using open source software).

We would very much like to get this going with alot more emphasis and support from our side. David, we would push some money in your direction if you want to organize the effort. Can you take a short break from Gentoo?! :-D Seriously, if we/you could find the right person (ppc arch knowledge) we would GLADLY retain you to get this going (and whoever that is).

    What do you think?

    R&B :-)

P.S. Targhan (Mr. Pumpkinhead -- just kidding!), do we get little smiley turkeys for Thanksgiving? Maybe, elves for Christmas?

    Hi,
thanks for the offer. I would gladly take you up on it but at the moment I have a lot of schoolwork to finish (last year of systems programming). The next semester (starting January) I will do my final year project and I've heard from previous students that if you plan everything correctly you can have a lot of extra spare time. If that is the case then I could take a deeper look at doing this (I would like to do some MOS coding as well so I might as well combine the two).

It is in fact quite possible that I could do this as my final year project as it is up to us to decide what we want to do. Hmm, I will have to ask the people in charge about this.

I also tried running VirtualPC, and it doesn't work,
but i also have RealPC, wich is the same looking
as VPC and RealPC works nicely, also with internet.

PC emulation (and not windows emulation) could be a good thing for
MorphOS... BUT, what about a Mac Emulator for MorphOS...

In fact, it become boring to switch operating system just to use some
    mac stuff ...

I agree. I don't want to install Linux just to run MAC stuff. I want to stick with MorphOS for all my stuff. :-)

It's faster then bochs, and also more compatible.
The problem is, RealPC eats memory for the JIT power and i can't setup RealPC to work full power, if i try i don't have enough memory left for windows to start.

    I realy need a peggyII with lot's of memory 1024MB orso :)

i haven't used MOL recently (not since I was part of the project).
Either way backthen Virtual PC used to run; BUT VirtualPC requires WORKING audio; if the audio in MacOS ain't functional VirtualPC will not start; but freeze as you said it did. if you have working audio and it still freezes, I can't tell of the top of my head what might cause it; it's not related to the linux kernel however; MacOS don't need to make any linux kernel calls; MOL provides a fully compabiliant PowerPC implementation to VirtualPC; if anything causes problems regarding this it would be that VPC expects a certain timing for some instructions; I doubt that however.
