I'm using PFS3 on my SYS: partition and almost everytime I shut down the powerbook at next boot this partition results damaged so I have to boot with Morphos CD and repair it!
Any idea why this happen Piru? :-)

Here is a grab of HDConfig, I don't know if this can help in any way..

For SYS: partition, better stick to proven solution -> SFS.

This problem worth fixing for sure. PFS port is quite recent afaik.

I would only use it for unsensitive data until bullet proof tested.

I think that Piru is using it as main file system, so I hope he can give me his opinion about this behaviour.

havent tried pf3 on Morphos yet, but seem to recall that pfs3 neede atleast 5 or maybe 7 secounds to write after you did a action like wrote something to the drive.

So if you copied files you waited atleast 5-7 secounds before rebooting or shutting down the system to avoid errors on the drive.
seem to recall if you listen to the drive your could hear it write to the disk after the operation ended, copy window closed.

but not sure thats the case anymore in this morphos version ;D

I have to say I haven't seen this kind of behavior in my testing, but also that I tested PFS3 with external drives (USB), not as a boot volume.

Meanwhile I'd like to hear from any users who've tested PFS3, have you seen similar problems?

As to delay required before rebooting or resetting: This should no longer be required with the MorphOS version, and even if you'd somehow manage to reboot before the changes have been written to disk it should only lead to loss of the latest changes, not to file system corruption.

I will need to investigate this issue.

    @Miky060,

Why use PFS3 instead of ICEFS, now that it is free? I think ICEFS and ICE Doctor are even included with MorphOS3.0 now, or if not, they are easily added with Grunch.

I have not yet switched from SFS to ICEFS, but plan to do so soon.

I fear I'm the only one using PFS3 as main FS (I believed you were too, beacuse many people says you're the PFS3 "fanboy").. I was really happy to hear that it would have been present as builtin in MOS3.0.. Maybe I'll have to forget about it and use ICEFS as amigadave suggested.

You are not the only one :) I'm using PFS3 on my PowerMac with Sonnet SATA and SSD disk and didn't get any trouble at all. I'm using PFS3 on all my partitions including system one.

You may use ICEFS for your Sys-partition - but not for boot-partition (if it's the same...)! Firmware is also (AFAIK) on MAC-hardware not able to handle ICEFS (definitly not under OF on PEGs). For useing ICEFS you need a small boot-partition with a propper FS, which your FW can read to boot MOS........

Btw: ICEFS is a very stable and quick new 64Bit FS (no 2 or 4GB filelimits!!) You should test it......
    Peg2, 3xPowerMac G5, 2xPowerbookG4, 2x MacMiniG4, Efika (again), A3000T and life is never boring.....

I know ICEFS and I am a long time MorphOS user (so I know that the boot partition must have ffs or HFS), some friends of mine use it and find it a good filesystem. I was curious to come back to use PFS3, because it was my favourite FS many years ago in Amiga Classic times. I remember it was very stable and very very fast.
This negative experience means I'll have to forget about the past and use new stuff :-)

SmartFirmware on Efika 5200B and not-too-old SmartFirmware on Pegasos II can also boot from SFS.

I use and always used PFS3 as main-fs for all my machines. I don't trust any other fs. I never had big problems, even with the new version included in MorphOS.

OP, dunno what's your problem, but try to set buffers to 1000 for each partition that using PFS.

Thanks a lot for your suggestion, I'll try this. Do you know if I can change this parameter inside HDConfig without loosing my data?

Yes, as changing buffer size doesn't entail filesystem reorganization.
