Proprietary MorphOS software should be listed here

    Hello,

I encountered a thread on some other Amiga-related forum where proprietary software is listed.

I checked those links. Many of them are for MorphOS also.

As long as some authors do not want the demos to be hosted elswere than at their homepage, I suppose it is indeed an important thing to list those titles here, at least as links, I mean adding them to the now-central MorphOS software zone (downloads)

Now: Amiga Forever 2010 with AmiKit and AmigaSYS
Not used: Icaros Desktop 1.2 (reason: no wifi)
    Planned soon: an OS4 system
Shortly then: a MOS notebook (wifi is a must-have)

Did you have any specific titles in mind?

These are downloadable and supposed to work under MorphOS (not sure which one though):

There can be more. Also the original list contains reference to the shops with boxed-only titles (to be investigated)

Didn't see any public downloads for PageStream and Hollywood, but all of these could of course be added to the MorphZone Links section.

That's what I meant. You always have to have (1) a demo/trial file (2) the author's agreement that you distribute the file.

That is why I suppose Downloads section should be extended to such (deemed proprietary) entries. Just to provide a link, not a file.

The MorphZone Downloads section / MorphOS Files already allows to do that.

If you click on the "Submit File" link in the sidebar, you will be forwarded to a special form that allows to submit file links. If you choose the option "locally hosted copy only", the binary will not be mirrored at MZ / MF and remain on the original website only.

Even though if there is no demo available, I think it is important to list the software here anyway. It only makes the platform stronger and more professional.

If you choose the option "locally hosted copy only", the binary will not be mirrored at MZ / MF and remain on the original website only.

Quite the opposite. The binary is always mirrored on MorphOS Files, so it is never lost due to broken external link. The main link is usually an external link to the archive, while small "local mirror" link links to a copy hosted on MorphOS Files. If, for some reasons, submitter does not want the main link to be external one (because the link is temporary, is on an account with very limited transfer, or account provider policy forbids file distribution), then "locally hosted copy only" should be ticked. It means the main link links to MorphOS Files copy and there is no external link to the original location at all.

CubicIDE demo version cannot be added to MorphOS Files, because the author explicitly forbids redistribution of the archive (so it can be legally downloaded from his site only). Weird in my opinion, but my opinion is irrelevant here... Then the only possibility is a link in "Links" section.

Demo versions of the two games are added.

So please add only the link to the site / file.

I would do the same if I was making a public software. It is normal I suppose. Unless of course, you're in love with open source.

Thanks. What about the others? There's at least one more stuff (Amijeweled) that has the button for download but it is both session-specific and requires ToC agreement checkbox checked.

Out of my most recent list, what exactly is not added in either form and why? Is this true that you added all the stuff, either by link or a file? I mean so that it is now possible to browse by appropriate category?

It can't be done in the downloads section. The rule of thumb is that local copy must be hosted on MorphOS Files.

It has nothing to do with open source. I see no point in restricting redistribution of the demo version. But well, if the author decided to restrict, I can do nothing about it.

Out of my most recent list, what exactly is not added in either form and why?

You've submitted three proposals: CubicIDE demo, Amijeweled demo and WordMeUp XXL demo. CubicIDE has been rejected for reasons given above (a link may be added in appropriate section of the Library). Amijeweled and WordMeUp XXL have been approved and are available now in game/thinking section, also visible in recent.

Thanks for clarifying and adding files too.

I'll try to dig for some more. I'll try to get back soon again.
