I am doing Amitopia TV and I am searching for some software that can help me
    making screen recordings nicer.

I see today on Aminet that there is a tool called srec for AmigaOS 4. Would someone
do a port of such program? I think it would be great for people to be able to demonstrate
what MorphOS can do on YouTube, MySpace etc.

    Take Care,

    Regards,
    Michal

Since srec is GPL you could request source code but I have been writing my own screen recording application for AmigaOS 2.0 and MorphOS.

    Here is a screenshot.

Currently it only supports PNG and JPEG formats but those can be converted to videos with right tools. Later on I am going to add support for direct video encoding.

Perhaps it's possible to have it record/encode (or convert) on the fly to video, so after recording no further manipulations have to be made by the user and the video is ready to use/play.

Thank you so much Itix! Will be cool to mix your program and Titler and make some
cool 3D effects. Titler supports video files now on Quad 3D's. Makes it very easy to
creat superb 3D titling animations etc.

    @ MorphDelf

is the new Titler already available to test somewhere? If not, do you know when will it be available? I'm looking very much for a software like this...

is your application already available somewhere to test it? When would you think you can add support to record videos to it?

Video support is planned but I havent got yet time to investigate it. Before allowing public testing I have to fix few bugs first. Maybe on the next week.

Oh, minor correction. ScreenRecorder is not port of srec but new application written from scratch.

Wow! Very nice. I'm curious, what are you using for video encoding? A regular media player (guess which...) might not be able to play this file, because it's not a very ordinary format ("motion JPEG"). Of course MPlayer plays it wonderfully, so who cares.
Have you fantasized yet with audio recording?

I am using my own AVI encoding routine which simply embeds JPGs into AVI container. Reportedly VLC can not play my MJPEG AVIs and when I compared my MJPEG-AVI to another MJPEG-AVI file from other source I noticed some structures were not identical (different sizes, broken usage of some fields etc) so it seems there is lot hidden information you can not find by reading MSDN specs.

I am planning to add better video formats in the future but it depends on how easily they can be embedded into application and are free from restrictions but that is something I am going to investigate later on.

Audio recording is planned and I started implementing it already but the first 1.0 release will be without audio recording. Now when I have got an icon release is near ;-)

Titler is getting better and better. You should come to #Titler on Freenode. Its most active from about 17 to midnight. It seems that we will see a release this year. If you want to betatest, then come to #Titler

    @itix
Thanks for the great work. I think this will help me and everyone else wanting to tell the world about MorphOS. Easy to do tutorial videos for new programs and so on. Atleast better than having to film a lcd screen with a videocamera.

    Thanks!!!

Aha. It must not be taht strange, as at least MPlayer copes with it. I agree that conforming to standard media formats can be a pain, guess what might happen when you want to add audio.
By the way, is your program able to record also overlays? I guess that's hard to do, as nowadays many parts of the desktop are not really onscreen bitmaps. Does it work with "3Dlayers"?

Overlay is not supported at the moment. It would need patching cgx but it can be done if there is enough demand.

3D layers are supported and you can even leave out recorder window from the actual recording. But this is available only under MorphOS 2.3 or newer because with currently released MorphOS 2.2 it is not possible identify screens which are using 3D layers. Using layer filtering method on 2D layers would just result in corrupted graphics.

Here is the release screenshot. As you see I am running MorphOS 2.2 because "Ignore recorder windows" (it does not ignore just main window but about and MUI prefs windows) is ghosted ;-)

Oh, and there is also OS2 compatible version. It of course supports MorphOS features when ran under MorphOS 2.
