    Hi,

I'm looking for some good joypads
or joysticks to play MAME games on Pegasos.

    Can someone recommend any?

Are there any pads that will NOT work with MOS?

    Cheers
    Gunnar

First thing is, go for an USB Stick/Pad. Those devices are way better supported then gameport Sticks.

Personally I have a Logitech Dual Action Joypad since ages, and it works very nice. Currently I try to find out how to configure the analogue Sticks in Poseidon V 3.2

It is simmilar to those Playstation Pads, without the rumble pack. For the real Arcade Feeling you might want to try an Arcade USB Joystick, however as I play other stuff as well and simply like those Pads, I stay with that Pad.

In general, I think every USB Device *should* just work, so look for your personal taste and try it. (But don`t nail me on that ;) )

just try to avoid Microsoft sidewinders pads. They work but are a real pain in the ass to configure.

I've got a Microsoft Sidewinder and it's not so hard to configure, the only thing I had to configure were the x and y axis of the joypad.

You can find a very nice guide here, it's for the Sidewinder but also usefull for other USB pads.

Did you mean some certain model, or arcade-like sticks in general?

X-Arcade joysticks work fine, and act as (configurable) keyboard. (There are separate adaptors for USB & Consoles available)

If you like PSX pads (or maybe even have one) get PS2 USB adaptor, but beware, not every one of them is compatible!

You might also want to consider Competition Pro USB.

    Thanks for all the tips!
I just went out and got a Competion Pro.
Looks nearly like to good old ones. (nice memories...)

    I just have one problem.
The Y-axis "down" is not working!

In Poseidon I see the folleing:
    The X-axis goes from 0 - 128 - 255 (Left - normal - right)
    The Y-axis gives these values 0 -128 - 128 (up - normal - down)

Is the joystick dead on arrival or do I need some magic setting to enable the down function?

    Cheers
    Gunnar

    (editd typo)

    @Bladerunner

Did you have to do anything special to make it work? I've tried one and poseidon fails to configure it.

I've heard about too many being that way... Get a replacement.

(It might just be badly positioned microswitch, but better use warranty if you can)

No, I had no particular Joypad in Mind, just in general ;)

    Golem:
Nope, Pluged in and "just" worked. Even analogue works without changing the config, at least VGP works now fine, just have some Problems with Freespace 2.

Looks dead to me. Does it click in down position? I borrow a Competiton Pro from Michael to check. But they are said to be very bad quality (unfortunately).
