Okay... Picked up Freespace a few nights ago and attempted to use it.

I've got it installed, I've updated it to the first PPC update and the Beta2 update that was released yesterday(?!).

I configured it to use the software renderer, AHI, disabled the streaming music but kept the streaming voice. Updated the "buffers" as well.

I sometimes get the program to freeze up on the briefing and debriefing. The videos also don't work. I do have FroggerNG regsitered and the most recent update does say that I could configure it to use an external video player with a command line option. Has anyone managed to get Freespace to use Frogger yet?

Anyone have any tricks that I could use in order to get it to not freeze on briefing/debriefings? :P

I was afraid of that... :( I guess I'll disable the streaming voice and see what happens next.

    Yes, me. :)

Use the latest FreespacePPC-beta (as You wrote).

Edit the file "Freespace.prefs" and add the following
(I would prefer the next line after "VideoDir"):

VideoPlayer = YourPath:FroggerNG/FroggerNG.MOS AUTOSTART AUTOEXIT FS DEPTH 24

    Regards

BTW: Anims are best played (screen-ratio) on a 640*480 screen.
You could set this with Frogger, if it doesn't use it automatically,
because if You have something like 640*400 or lesser definded as
screenmode Frogger/CGX will use this. In that case
use MODEID xxxxxx, where You've to fill in the decimal
or hexadecimal value for You 640*480*24 mode.
    (use GetHexModeID from AmiNet).

    An example:

YourPath:FroggerNG/FroggerNG.MOS AUTOSTART AUTOEXIT FS DEPTH 24 MODEID 1083310161

    or as hexadecimal:

YourPath:FroggerNG/FroggerNG.MOS AUTOSTART AUTOEXIT FS DEPTH 24 MODEID 0x40920051

    AWESOME... Thanks.

I just tried it out and I'm getting videos playing great with Frogger!

I wonder if we'll ever get streaming music and voice setup? :P

    Hmmm,

Having a voodoo3, i'm using the warp3d driver. Alas, freespace radomly hangs within the missions (when flying). I tried the official update, but that hangs when entering the briefing room. Then I tried the beta-update, but that one hangs when entering the game (standing in the main hangar).

    Help/suggestions anyone?

    Aaaargh!

For some reason it hangs everytime now, some 10 seconds after entering mission 2!!!! I tried various warp3d settings, but nothing seems to help -> software rendering gives me a bugged display, even though it's configured correctly in the system prefs.

If there's someone with a working Freespace install, please enlighten me; it's incredibly frustrating having finally bought the game only to discover that it won't work!

    Thanx in advance!

I've played Freespace a bit on my Pegasos too, and it sure feels as unstabile as it was on my amiga...

Maybe disabling sounds helps with the newest update?

I've tried to play it and cant even get it to start. Once its installed (I have to install it to my system partition (It has some bug that tells me I have negative HD space on my work drive) I run the setup app and then hit play. It gives me an erroe telling me freespace.exe is not executable. Cant figure it out.

Where is the source code of Freespace? I cant find it

And what about Freespace 2? It has source code available:

    http://www.freespace-2.com/ddn/
    http://freespace.volitionwatch.com/fsscp/
    http://fs2source.warpcore.org/cgi-bin/cvsweb/cvsweb.cgi/

And a mod that i found:
    http://www.3dap.com/hlp/hosted/babylon/faq.shtml

The parts of Freespace 1 runs on Freespace 2 then?

Edited: icculus' source code supports FS1 & FS2, so i think that the others of CVS will suppor it...

    Hi Freespace Fans
Sorry to bring up this old thread but I had to, as it seems as I found a solution for the bad crashes in Freespace.
It happend also to me, that after the update Freespace refused to work (i.e. it crashed badly) Now I tried to use the 68k Version from Freespace and now it seems to work pretty well :-) Don`t worry about the Emulation, it is still pretty fast, even if it is Softwarerender. (I excpected that this Version won`t run without 3d Hardware Suport, but well... ;-) )

Oh and another hint: If you have an usb Joypad with analog Stick, try to configure this Stick as "Mouse" et voila, you can play Freespace with an analog Stick ;-) (Just have to figure some good values for smoother moving)

BTW, wasn`t there something about Freespace 2 port for MOS recently?!
