    After several months I am still not able to burn DVDs under Pegasos. What do u guys use?

    That version of cdrtools for MorphOS just hung up.

    In Gentoo Linux I tried emerging the cdrtools and then downloading the cdrecord-prodvd binary from Schilling page

    ftp://ftp.berlios.de/pub/cdrecord/ProDVD/README

    But since the binary for powerpc-unknown is more than a year older, it seems that the key is not working... I tried writing the author several times, but no advance... Last time, he asked me my MAC address to make me a key, but then he never replied again.

    The other day I saw that dholm had added a ~ppc version of dvdrtools. I uninstalled cdrtools and tried that one. But mkisofs is not working (always complains about unreadable files!), and dvdrecord seems to work, but just after beginning gives and input/ouput error and stops.

    What do u guys do?
    Though a bit sad, I am considering buying a PC just to be able to burn....

    Hi Hawk,

    I'm just waiting for BurnIt.
    At the moment I use the pc for this purpose.

    But even when we can burn DVD's, we still have the problem of the 2 GB sadly enough...

    Bye,

    Hmm. I am burning DVDs with pegasos/linux since quiet long without any problems.

    Using k3b with debian. Works just excellent.

    @Hawk

    As mentionned in few other threads, the next FryingPan, version 0.4, is almost out.

    I am betatesting it, and there is no problem at all to burn on any kind (+ & -) of DVDs, even up to 4GB.

    *** The 2GB limit is not only an issue on AOS/MOS, but on ALL 32-bit OS.

    The only issues are with MOS itself up to now, and those are:
    - File size limit = 2 GB - 1 byte (only problematic if you want to create an ISO before burning it)
    - CDFS -> Can't read behond the 4GB limit

    I burnt many 4.7GB DVDs successfully. They still can't be read behond the 4gb limit in MOS, but can be read correctly in any other OS, as their CDFS has been fixed since quite some time.

    There can be/will be ways around that. But it will for sure be much less convinient than on, say, Windows ... :-/

    MorphOS needs a new file system!
    MorphOS is Amiga done right! :-)
    MorphOS NG will be AROS done right! :-)

    Is that 2Gb still a limit if using SFS?

    Can PFS be used under MOS? (I just got PFS2 for my A3000)

    Not that I've got any 2Gb files anyway :-D

    Has it only a problem with files over 2GB or dose it have a problem with a DVD filled over 2Gb???

    @ThePlayer & ALL

    FILESIZE limit = 2GB - 1 byte

    CDFS (CD-rom File System) limit = Problem with DVD filled more than 4GB (for reading).

    Whatever File System you use, the 2GB FILESIZE limit is an issue with dos.library that can't be easily fixed.

    I finally managed to burn DVDs ^^;

    But the only program that works for me is growisofs (thanks Ray). All the others just hang up. The thing is that I didn't know that you could burn any ISO file with growisofs so easily! (-_-)u The tricky point is that I have to add an option twice! Don't ask me why ...:

    growisofs -dvd-compat -dvd-compat -Z /dev/dvd=/home/mm/MY_VIDEO.ISO

    By the way, my burner is:

    MITSUMI DW-7872TE

    for dvdrecord, I guess a Pioneer would work better ... ^^;

    Great to hear you have it working..

    Fyi Burn it 3 does burn DVD nicely on MOS...

    Also, be sure to try K3b in linux - its an excellent program with a nice intuitive GUI.

    How fast have you managed to burn a dvd? I have a 16x writer, and 8x media, and cannot get more than 1.9x in k3b/gentoo, and about the same speed using fryingpan/mos. Any ideas why?

    @magnetic

    k3b is just a frontend for cdrtools/dvdrtools and cdrdao.

    @killlbilll

    With growisofs I have managed 4x with 4x media.

    -

    I did patch cdrtools 2.01alpha38 with all the DVD related patches, but sadly this don't go well, everything compiles except the cdrecord itself, this is the case with both the gnu-make and smake (that is recommended for building cdrtools). I guess we have to kind of live with the case that drivers and software aren't developed for PPC, but only for x86 and we may be lucky that it works on PPC.

    Hello,

    FYI I have successfully burnt a DVD using FryingPan 0.3
    Now the data consisted in a back-up of all my photographs (I gave a very quick check by opening a few photos at random).
    Yet I cannot tell you the total size of the whole data (it apparently exceeded DirOpus4 capacity so the total size was negative ;-) I made a rough estimation from the sizes of the directory, ruled it could fit in a DVD and pressed burn ;-)
    Regarding the speed I really don't remember except that I deemed it acceptable - I mean the whole process was done within - say 10 or 15' but I am quite sure it was faster than 1.9x

    My config: PegasosII with Plextor DVD burner
    PegasosII G4 - 512 Mb - Voodoo 3
    Amiga 1200/603e - 256 Mb - BVision

    You can check data consistency with CRCtoy. :)

    Hello,

    To complete my previous post: I burned another DVD this WE using FryingPan v0.3

    total file size neared 4 Gbytes; write speed was around 40x (from FryingPan). Job was completed within 10' (minutes).

    My DVD burner is an IDE Plextor PX-108T
    PegasosII G4 - 512 Mb - Voodoo 3
    Amiga 1200/603e - 256 Mb - BVision

    Hello,

    I also burnt many DVD+Rs, but using FryingPan v0.4a (registered) without any problem whatsoever, even putting 4.37GB (max size) of data.

    The only issue is still with MOS, which can't read the data on DVD behond the 4GB limit. I tested burnt DVDs on a PC and data is correct.

    My DVD Writer (which only does DVD+R) is a Plextor PX-504A.

    Where can you get Frying Pan though. The site listed doesn't have the files. 3.2 is shown but the files aren't there.

    Please be patient, author of the FryingPan was off for about 6 weeks and during that time he had not access to the internet. And his pages were under reconstruction, and still not finished. Please register to yahoo's fryingpan_amiga ML and there You will be able to get the latest releases.

    Now FP's author is again back, so I'm sure it will take not more, than few days to finish the pages.

    Bye, MarK.
