I was seen that there are some emulators for Amigha, anyone tried it on MorphOS? Any can use it sucessfully on MorphOS?

And I'm not talking about MOL, I talk about classic mac emulation...

I have Fusion on floppies, so I've never been able to test it.

No chance. They wont work. You can't install PrepareEmul util (zeropage is write protected) and Shapeshifter bangs HW (CIA timers) anyway.

I tried Shapeshifter on MOS/PUP once and it didnt work. It wasnt whining lack of PrepareEmul tho, and I could start booting but crashed quite soon.

I, Poundsmack, here by knight you "Port thread creator" I give up my old crown.

oh and by the way if you want something like what you suggestes THIS is way more portable. actualy i bet all it would need is a simple recompile. :-)

There is one chance to emulate classic Macs: Somebody should try the source of Basilisk II in the version for Linux x86 or Windows and make a MorphOS Version from that. I thinks this would be the only possible workaround for the missing MMU on PPC/68k-Emul side. I would love to see such a port...

Did anyone tried Basilisk under Linux on Pegasos? It should be fast enough, I think?

Does anybody know how to reach Jim Drew (author of Fusion)? His MS-Dos Version of Fuison would be a good start for a new Mac-Classic Emulator, too. I remember it was terrible fast on my old PC of the pre XP age with an AMD K6, 450 MHz.

When thinking about it more deep... what's the problem with zero page emulation, when the whole 68k is emulated? IMO it would require only small workaround, wouldn't it?

    Bye, MarK.

PS: I'd love to have the classic mac working, I still have lots of applications for this machine... and under MOS' 68k emulation it would (in speed) beat atleast G2 PowerMacs :-)

Oh yes, please please port it. I really loved my Apple IIgs and running Kegs on MorphOS would be so much more fun than on Windows.

    @MarK

Zero page is write protected in MorphOS -> you cant run PrepareEmul -> without PrepareEmul Shapeshifter whines and refuses to run.

I doubt MorphOS team is ready to modify 68k emulation to support classic Mac emus. As said Shapeshifter needs CIA emulation. Not sure if Fusion would work, it was quite crash prone on classic.

BasiliskII could be recompiled for MOS. The easiest way for it to work would be emulating the entire 68k inside BasiliskII and not using Trance (just like you would do on x86, but with the advantage of avoiding endianess conversions).

As Basilisk2 has various ways of working, I guess that another possible method would be to to use Trance's 68k emu but memory space should be emulated. It wouldn't be as fast has having access to the first 8kbytes and using the memory directly but I guess that it would work. I haven't looked at Basilisk2 for at least 6 months so I can't remember.

    Hi!
I tried a precompiled and "aliened" rpm-package under
Peg1/debian. Speed is quiet good, but I get gfx-errors here...
Maybe I should look deeper in the -oldworld option of MOL...
    bye

So? You can run Classic MacOS on MOL. You could of course say something like:

"Hey Frostwork, thanx for the suggestion, but what about MacOS emulation within MorphOS :-)"

Sounds better, more polite and :-D is what counts, right?

    YoHo!
DrZarkov asked if there is s.o. already tried
    Basilisk/PEG/Linux...
    I did so and answered!
As MOL has the option of --oldworld (being able to start
MacOS7.6- 8.1) I mentioned it, but didn't try it yet enough....
I only know I can mount my old Amiga-Shapeshifter-MacOS7.6-dmg under MOL and boot from it...
So what exactly is your problem!
    But who cares?
    Everybody has had bad days...
    bye

Fusion and PCx for that matter both don't work in MOS. If I remember correctly, the GUI's don't even load up. ;)

Shapeshifter won't run and umm... For that matter PCTask doesn't seem to work (at least with a hd file on SFS, and doesn't read from Catweasel floppies. :P)
