    So, does anyone from MorphOS Team feels like adding animated (gif perhaps?)/sound support on the boot screen and animated support on Ambient's backdrop (i.e. some AVI, .MKV whatever playing on the background)? Is it even feasible or will it need external application, much like into OS4?

    Quite a few users report that they do not see the MorphOS boot logo at all or only extremely briefly so I do not think it makes a lot of sense to add anything in this area. It should be noted that adding a nice high-resolution animation and sound effects will increase the amount of data that is loaded while MorphOS starts up by quite a bit. In other words, it would slow down the boot process for everyone. Of course, one could make this an optional feature but it just does not seem to be worth the effort given how fast MorphOS boots up.

    You can dump JPEG images to some directory and let Ambient switch to nextbackground every X seconds.
    1 + 1 = 3 with very large values of 1

    A flapping butterfly might be nice, even if it's only for a second :-)

    @itix

    I know, but that can hardly be called animated backdrop :P

    @Yasu

    My thoughts exactly ;)

    @ASiegel

    Well, how much will the boot process be stalled for displaying an animated gif accompanied with a sound? 500kb/1MB gif + 500kb/1MB a simple sound effect shouldn't cost much. Regarding the boot time, MorphOS indeed starts fast but using the system you get to reboot from time to time due to programs mediating / crashing, so you get to check the boot screen every now and then. Plus even the 3.1 ks had some sort of animation into the rom, let's move it to the OS and get the same feeling :)

    Anyway, it's a cosmetic suggestion, I am sure there are other more urgent matters to cover :)

    When using an SSD MorphOS boots faster than the usual Display can resync. It simply makes no sense.

    Even the current boot screen is quite useless and only visible when it asks for a password.

    OS4 takes ages to cold boot, so they need some visuals to see if something goes wrong.

    If you see a boot screen for more than a second, you probably should defrag or replace your harddrive. :)

    Kickstart's anim was only shown if no boot volume was found: HD = never. The anim was rather an easter egg. Stupid.
