    Hi,

I am thinking of getting a Pegasos II-G3 board so, I do have a few questions :)

    - The first thing I would like to do once everything is setup is get on the internet (via Switch which is connected to ADSL router at home). Will I be able to use this sytem on Morph OS out of the box, or I will have to install Amiga Software such as TCPIP stacks etc.

    - Will it be possible to access other computers on the switch on Morph OS, or I`ll have to install appropriate Amiga Software such as Samba?

    - Does Morph OS come with software such as web browser, IRC, email etc.

    - Where can I read a list of Morph OS features!

Thanks a lot for helping out this poor soul of mine :-D

    Hello,

TCP/IP : you will have to install a stack. AmiTCP, Genesis or Miami works.

SMB/CIFS/NFS/NETCONNECT : you will have to add additionnal software to access other computers.

TCP/IP APP : Mos come with Voyager (limited version). No IRC, no mailer.

    MOS Feature : www.morphos.net

    Have a nice day.

    Tcheko.

    1. MorphOS has with version 1.4 no TCP/IP stack so you have
to use Miami, MiamiDX, Genesis or AmiTCP ... this works all
fine over a router. if you want to connect direct over the
adsl modem then you need MiamiDX, but you have a router ...
this is a much better solution.

    2. you need samba or ftp stuff ... samba is currently not
    available as mos nativ version

    3. MorphOS include Voyager Webbrowser, for IRC you can use
AMIRC, but this is not included. for mail you can use
    YAM mos nativ
    Simplemail mos nativ
but you have to download first, because its not included.

    4. MorphOS features

Are these available for download anywhere, or I have to buy them?

AmiTCP, Genesis and Miami is commerzial stuff so you have
to buy it. but in the hope that mos 1.5 is not to far away
you can use the demo version in this time.

    limitations:
miami / miamidx: going offline after 30minutes, but you can
    directly after that go online.

AmiTCP4 demo: don't know where the limitation is, but you
have to life with config files and no gui :)

Genesis: i dont know if a demo is available and with what
    limitations

Did you buy the OS3.9 CD?

In that case you can install Genesis onto your system.
From Aminet you can download the MUI Genesis-demo (just search for Genesis).
This you copy on top of the installed OS3.9 version (also the MUI-libs).
Now you have a perfectly working Genesis :-)

I use Samba with Tango and that works nicely (after correct configuration ofcourse :-)

Does Genesis run really stable? Well, I would like to exchange Miami with something else, since it sometimes chrashes when going online (modem init I guess).

    Hi,

When is Morph OS 1.5 out? Will it have a built-in TCP/IP stack? Thanks!

    Hi Zylesea,

    Does Genesis run really stable?
Yes. At the very beginning I used MiamiDX-demo version, but now almost a year already I'm using this Genesis-combo without any problems.

    Bye,

    Spidey

ps: And I don't encounter real speed difference between Genesis and MiamiDX. But again other people reported to have bigger speed differences between these two programs.

    Hello Everblue,

When is Morph OS 1.5 out? Will it have a built-in TCP/IP stack?
This is what all of us are waiting for. It seems we'll get V1.4.2 first. So lets wait for that update and see what's in it :-)
And yes, MOS1.5 should have a build in TCP/IP stack.
It's unclear when this will be released. In the meanwhile enjoy the oncoming V1.4.2 :-)

    Bye,

    Spidey

    Hi everyone,

Some of the first impressions of a MOS-newbie:

I just received my Pegasos and obviously I was
very excited and eager to see what MorphOS looks
like in real life. I had been surfing and reading
about it for a couple of weeks. www.morphos.net
looks great and says "Bundled as part of MorphOS
itself" and below AmiTCP. But I had missed the
small print "...will be included in MorphOS."
A disappointment had been scheduled for me, by me,
    myself.

Thanks to this great forum I eventually got Miami
running and Voyager launched. I am actually an
Amiga-(re)newbie as well so it took some effort
to get online. I could not find any step-by-step
howtos of MorphOS networking so I thought it might
be a good idea to write one. Although I probably
need some help. I'm aiming for a solution that is
free and does not have time limitations etc.

Am I too late, is there going be more newbies like
me before MOS1.5 is out? What do you think?

    Cheers!

    @SchizMoss

Please write one, new PegII's are shiping and I'm sure someone will benefit from your work. After writing your guide, don't forget to give it to Targhan for inclusion in FAQ.

I think the same, a newbie FAQ for connect with MIAMIDX or Genesis will be great for the Morphzone FAQ

the only problem is ... that there is no FREE tcp/ip stack
    without limitations.

    - Genesis is not free
    - Miami/MiamiDX is also not free an the demo has time limit
    - amitcp/ip is also not free but i dont know where the
limitation is in the demo :)
    - roadshow is not available and if yes than not free

is there any other tcp/ip stack?

AmiTCP/IP 4.0 Demo may be used by anyone without
a fee. Though I haven't managed to install it yet.
I suppose someone here knows if there are any
other limitations in AmiTCP 4 Demo than lack of
    support for DHCP?

AmiTCP 4.0 Demo seems to work fine for me as well.
DHCP/BOOTP-client is missing but for static IPs
(NATed xDSL etc.) it's not an issue.

Anyway, here's a short howto for true newbies (like
    me).

    -Download AmiTCP from
    Aminet
    -Download CygnusEd
    www.morphos-news.de

-Extract AmiTCP to a drawer you want to use it from.
    -Copy MOSSYS:Devs/Networks/via_rhinepci.device to DEVS:
    -Create file AmiTCP-4.0/db/resolv.conf with line:
    NAMESERVER aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd (ip-of-your-nameserver)

    -Add line to AmiTCP-4.0/db/interfaces:
    vrhine DEV=Devs:via_rhinepci.device UNIT=0

    -Edit AmiTCP-4.0/devs/inet-mountlist:
    GlobVec = -1

    -Create file AmiTCP-4.0/bin/startnet with lines:
    AmiTCP:AmiTCP
    WaitForPort AmiTCP
    ifconfig lo0 localhost
    ifconfig vrhine eee.fff.ggg.hhh (your-ip) netmask iii.iii.iii.jjj
    route add eee.fff.ggg.hhh localhost
    route add default kkk.lll.mmm.nnn (your-gateway)
    Assign TCP: Exists > NIL:
    IF Warn
    Mount TCP: from AmiTCP:devs/Inet-Mountlist
    EndIf

    -Add to your S:user-startup:
    assign AmiTCP: (location-of-amitcp)
    path AmiTCP:bin add
    Assign APIPE: Exists > NIL:
    IF Warn
    Mount APIPE: from AmiTCP:devs/APipe-Mountlist
    EndIf

    -Reboot

    -Run:
    execute AmiTCP:bin/startnet

    -Click ok and run Voyager

Corrections and improvements are welcome! :)

    Nice SchizMoss!

Does AmiTCP work with usb/adsl modems? Or will I have to resort to MiamiDX?

    I think AmiTCP doesn't work with usb-modems...

I missed a couple of lines before so I added them
to my previous message. More advanced AmiTCP
users please let us know if there is still
something missing or totally wrong. Thanks!

    A thing worth mentioning.
I upgraded from SMBFS 1.55 to 1.60, MPlayer refused to play videos on network drives after that. So does 1.59. But 1.58 works without any problems.

So if you're into watching movies using network-drivers, stick to 1.58.
