    I don't get it Andreas.
Acube has sold "industrial" models of its boards for some time now, but only in quantity.
And the reference you pointed to seems to mention the lastest "lite' bundle which still includes AOS4.1.

Yes, that's the point. While regarding the "industrial" versions of both the Sam440ep-flex and the Sam460ex they state "prices may vary depending on volumes, please contact us", regarding the Sam460ex-lite "industrial" version they just say "EUR 499.50 for the industrial version". Don't you think this has to mean something? Maybe that you could get it in single quantity?

    > the reference you pointed to seems to mention the lastest "lite' bundle

    Yes.

    > which still includes AOS4.1

The "industrial" version doesn't seem to include it, that's my point.

    Edit:
On the other hand, the page says: "Note that these two Lite offers are limited until stock last, and sold only from ACube Systems directly". So I guess these Sam460ex-lite boards are really what others already suspected they are, and a hypothetical MorphOS port couldn't arrive before those boards were sold out anyway.

Ah, I wish you'd referenced that "EUR 499.50 for the industrial version" first.

    Yes that is significant.

I wonder how long they will continue to offer it?

Isn't it in the first reference I pointed to (Zylesea's MorphZone posting)?

    > I wonder how long they will continue to offer it?

According to ACube "until stock last".

Um, yes it is. I didn't read it completely. Instead I moved to the link Zylesea listed.

But it's in there as well, even in the exact same wording like on ACube's Sam460ex web page ;-)

    OK, OK
I just got up Andreas ;)

BTW - Who is going to pay for the port?

Nobody apparently ;-) But as I said, ACube says it's limited stock so a port wouldn't make sense anyway I guess.

No, I guess it wouldn't. Adopting a board with worse performance than a G4 Mac that sells at a premium price wouldn't make sense.
And I just had Kronos point out to me that that 499 is without VAT.

I take that to read "Yes" ;-)

    > 499 is without VAT.

Yes, as is the 599 EUR price for the non-"industrial" version including OS4, so the cost saving (and thus not contributing to Hyperion's wallet) aspect of the "industrial" version compared to the non-"industrial" version still applies.

English is such an imprecise language that either would work. ;)

BTW - Does VAT get charged to US customers?

Hello. I just want to notify that this thread is the first one coming up when searching for MorphOS 3 in Google here in Norway atleast.

Would be nice to get MorphOS for X1000 and even their Amiga Notebook :) But PowerBook G4 is great too.. hehe.

    But then:

"I am looking this from the MorphOS developer point of view: if ACube wanted MorphOS on their hardware they pay all porting costs + premium or they develop all drivers themselves and pay less to the MorphOS team to get required support."

This is funny knowing that at the time this statement was made, MorphOS for Sam460ex had already been in development for at least half a year according to geit. And some claim that ACube neither paid for the port nor develop the required drivers for MorphOS themselves:

"originally the MorphOS port for ACube's hardware (Sam440s and 460s) didn't work out because at the time the MorphOS team was asking for money for the port and still to sell the OS at the full price. ACube position was that they should have either financed the port (and then the OS would have been bundled for free with the machines), or they would have provided some machines, and the port would have been sold just like every other version. As far as I know, it still is how it worked for the MorphOS port: the team now decided it made good sense to port the OS for the 460s for PR reasons"

This sequence of events gives me hope that we will see support for whatever machines A-eon creates as a follow up to the X1000.

If ARM transition or x86 is not done but that time, Cyrus basic model is not that much improvement as smaller size board, wait for full size 4 core board, but SMP (or A/Box here) would have to be done by that time - what a nice concept of sandboxing (mini VMs?)

    That is a fair statement.
Cyrus will just utilize a processor that is still in production and supported.
And I doubt A-eon would pay for an OS port anymore than Acube would.

An X2000 port would be neat, but most of the functionality could be had far cheaper by supporting PCI-E G5s.

However, since the ISA jump is more of a forking of the OS, continued development of the PPC version would be a blessing.

With just the hardware we have now (or soon will have) we have enough power to take us through several more years of productive use.

Maybe the focus needs to be on software.
