The benefit of AmigaOS 3.1.4 (and 3.1.4.1) over a patched 3.1 is, that it incorporates source code changes patching some bugs where there are no patches for 3.1.
Especially the new FFS is handy (no more trouble booting from > 4 GiB media/partitions) + the new diskdoctor too.
