Hi everyone,
I'm a complete newbie and just installed MorphOS 3.9 on a 12" iBook G4. Installation went fine but I encountered two immediate issues:

1. When I activate wireless, my wireless access point appears in the list so I know that the Airport card is working. The little dot turns green after I type in my password. When I type in a URL in the browser, I get an error saying that the browser can not connect. Should I be seeing a wifi icon appear on the top of the screen but I'm not getting anything. The browser is a bit confusing to use as well...

2. Can MorphOS read a USB stick that's been formatted on a PC? I have one with some Amiga applications I want to try and run. The stick shows up on the desktop, shows that there's used/unused space on the disk but when I open it, I see nothing. Does the USB stick need to be formatted in MorphOS before being used to transfer files from my PC?

3. On some YouTube videos I've seen of MorphOS, the desktop looks very different from the one I have after a clean install. Some individuals have a bar along the bottom with icons to launch applications (like OSX or the taskbar in Windows) and a lot more feedback on the top of the screen (like a wifi symbol) plus other information. The icons look different as well. Are these modifications made after the fact?

It all comes with standard MorphOS installation but must be activated by the user.

The links proved to be very helpful. I still can't seem to connect to any websites even though wifi is working via the airport card. When I ping a website, I get no response. Once I can get online, this should open up a world of possibilities.

Can MorphOS open ADF files? If not, where do I get installation files that MorphOS will be able to open?

As always, any information would be most helpful.

If the lamp goes s green your wifi connection is live. However, the reason you are not online is probably the DNS server.

It probably did not get set properly during DHCP phase, so you only can talk with devices using the ip and not the name. It is not the website ping that fails. It is the name. There is no known (server) way to convert the name into an ip. If you do ping on some other computer e.g. Google.de you get the websites ip. Now on MorphOS you can use that ip inside the browser URL field and google.de will load fine.

To fix this open the Network settings and open the dns page. Add the ip of your router as DNS Server. Alternative you can use external once, like google. No clue what the up was, but googling should give you the ip. Using some external ip is more handy to avoid such issues when connecting to other networks.

But using the routers IP should do. The in most cases that's just it.

"Open" as in "accessing the contained files" or as in "booting like in an m68k Amiga"?

I've got applications and games saved as ADF files and I'd like to run them, or install them to the hard drive if possible....so not boot an ADF but run it. Again, thank you so much for your help.

In other words, I can see the ADF files but can't click them to launch them. Is there a virtual disk drive I can insert the ADF files into to run them like you can in UAE?

I was finally able to get online but on reboot could not connect immediately.
I'm done for the night but will try the app you suggested tomorrow in order to run ADF files.

No, ADF files are image files, not executable files, so they can't be run on MorphOS, just mounted for accessing the contained files unless they contain no readable file system. In order to "run them like you can in UAE", you need UAE for MorphOS.

Thank you everyone for all the fantastic help. I was able to get my system up and running in minimal time with all your help.

I just installed Chrysalis which really transforms the whole MorphOS experience by providing just about everything one needs in one shot. A few more questions:

1. After installing Chrysalis, I got an error message stating that there was an error with Arexx. I'll post the actual error message when I get back home if I can get it to reappear. Perhaps I'll try and reinstall Arexx and see if this solves the problem.

2. Before Chrysalis began installation, it tried to download and install some Truetype fonts but this part of the process failed after it could not download one of the fonts needed. Not certain if this might be problematic down the line.

2. When opening a window, how do I make it show "list view" or "all icons" by default?

3 Is there a good tutorials for setting up E-UAE? I tried doing this with ROMS I have from Amiga Forever but was getting error messages when I tried to run the emulator. I've used Amiga Forever before and understand how to load ADF files and so on, it's mostly getting the ROMS recognized that seems to be the problem.

Again, thank you for all your help. When I first installed MorphOS, I was really quite disappointed but after a few days it's become a really nice alternate OS on my iBook.
