The best (performance wise) card you can get is a 128 bit radeon 8500 / 9100

    Hi! :-)

I think that Radeon 9250 is a good buy today.

If 3D (in MorphOS) is important to you, you should have a look at http://3d.morphos-team.net to see if the Radeon model you're planning to buy is supported (most models are, but really high end models like Radeon 9800 etc is not yet supported).

DVI output is supported for some brands/manufacturers of Radeon, but not all. But perhaps VGA output is sufficient?
MorphOS is Amiga done right! :-)
MorphOS NG will be AROS done right! :-)

Currently the fastest cards with MorphOS 3D support are those with ATI Radeon 8500 and 9000Pro chips.

If you like a very silent system, there are Radeon 9000 and 9200 and 9250 cards that do not have a fan.

The Radeon 9000Pro All-in-Wonder is a good choice if you would like to watch TV, since it is going to be supported by VisionaryPro.

256MB Videoram is not neccessary, but look out for cards with 128Bit RAM interface! Very cheap 9200SE or 9250 cards only have 64Bit memory which slows things down quite a bit.

Most AGP 8.0 cards are backwards compatible, so you can use them without problems. Just make sure they use the right voltage (3.3v) I'm using a Sapphire Radeon 9250 128mb 8.0 AGP for example without any probs. Nice card too :-)

You might want to use the search function on MZ to find more information about compatible gfx cards; there have been quite some threads on this before ;-)

I only can recommend a 9250 with 128bit mem. (Own one from Club3D... comes with all extras u need and not), it's passive and nice in general. ;)

    regards,

I would go for a Radeon 9100@300Mhz not LE.

Anyway if you don' have money a Radeon 8500LE, 9100 LE Radeon 7500 LE will be better than a 9200SE/9250SE because the first cards have a 128bit bus but reduced frequency (let's say 225Mhz instead of 275Mhz) but the 9200/9250 SE versions have half the memory bandwitch because memory is just 64bit.

    Hi,
i've tried to put a Radeon 7000 Pci 32 Mb in my 1200+GREX, but there is no drivers for Mos PuP... and it's well recognised by the early boot menu and openpciinfo.
    Keep the Faith !

Maybe one day a G4 AmigaONE when they will be debugged and without April...

Radeons need bios init which is handled by openfirmware on Pegasos, ie. before the MorphOS drivers kick in.

Why can it not be done by software ?
BPPC PCI menu can see the card and OpenPci too, so a software init command could be done ?

Maybe it may be possible to copy the registers of the same initialized radeon on a PC or Peggy and later load them on the grex before loading the CGX driver... but I don't know if using a different screenmode etc would be possible. And that probably would require changing something in the registers too.

Launching a small app with a x86 emulator that inits the card using its VGA bios before loading the CGX driver probably would be far more interesting, but I doubt that anyone has the skills to do it... It may be quite similar to the task SmartFirmware does...
