    Hey guys,

I've just joined this site and was hoping to get my hands on a mac-mini so i can run morphos. This will be my first nextgen amiga experience and can't really afford an x1000 so will have to settle for morphos :-)

My laptop is about to kick the boot so i need a replacement so i guess i'm looking at a dual boot that can also run tiger or leopard and run morphos on the side for fun :-)

Also live in australia but willing to import from anywhere.

    What are my options?

If i can't find anything i like i will have to buy a new one which means no morpho :-(

I've got a couple for sale but shipping costs maybe prohibitive...
Anyway I have one 1.42ghz model without MorphOS2.x key and one 1.5ghz 64MB VRAM model with MorphOS2.x key included.

There are no options! It is not settling for morphos but a giant step into the future.
I have a dual boot setup but rarely use the mac side (mainly for printing)

I just bought me a cheap Powermac, cheap to start with and upgradable in different ways ...

Ok MorphOS 2.6 isn't out yet, but how long can it take ?

I also can't afford an X1000 and a SAM isn't exactly that cheap for what is either. And buying a second hand Peg or AmigaOne ... add a zero to what you pay for a PowerMac. No MorphOS it is for now.

    Hi Kesa,

    Firstly, welcome to Morphzone.

If you're purchasing a Mac-mini for MorphOS (which requires a G4 Mac-mini, an Intel Core one will NOT run MorphOS), you may want to ensure that you look for one with 64MB Video ram.
32MB may be enough for you, but I find that with 2 or 3 screens open (eg OWB, Simplemail, Workbench) video ram starts to run past 32MB. Also, with 32MB, you may have to turn off triple buffering and forego some of the nicer eye-candy things (like Lucy).

You could also select a nice 1.25GHz Emac if that floats your boat (although imho the mac-mini is prettier).

Alternatively, (if you could hold off for a short while*) Powermac support is on the way - giving you more expansion possibilities (although the mac-mini matches the top-spec Powermac for memory bus speed at 167MHz, DDR). Here is a rundown of the Powermac supported models/onboard devices.

*(Two more weeks? ;-) Honestly, I don't know, but my Spidey-sense tells me it won't be long)

Ebay usually has several available at a given time (depending on location). Craigslist or Gumtree are other possibilities (although I don't know if these operate down under).
If you want to be sure of what you are buying, and want confidence that the machine is thoroughly tested, then Ruud is selling some mac-minis pre-configured (as posted above).

Mainly though, have fun setting up your new system: I think you'll be very impressed once you get it installed and your favourite apps up and running.

Oh, and don't forget to say thanks to the devs for all their hard work getting MorphOS onto the great hardware base we now have available. They do it out of Love (of Pizza) y'know ;-)

    All the best

Mate i'm in Perth and i've got two mac mini's just sitting around that i'd be willing to part with.

Both are 1.42Ghz, one with 1GB of RAM and the other with 256MB.
The one with 256MB of RAM is unused (new old stock that I bought years ago from a mac store on ebay).
