    Maybe OT a bit, but I love Apple's official statement:

    To disable the startup sound that plays when you turn on your mac, simply hold down the mute button while pressing the power button. Keep it held down for a while, until after the sound would have normally played.


    Annoying, patronising and completely useless. Apple at its best.

    Actually the real way to disable the sound is to write the variable SystemAudioVolume=%80 to NVRAM. This may actually survive poweroffs so you could in theory do it from a Linux bootable thumb drive. I can see all sorts of issues accessing NVRAM from Quark's memory map on MorphOS though...

    (And no, OF is not affected at all.)
